The Silver Linings Playbook question

A lot of the reviews that I read written about this book mention that it is a very uplifting story. Even though I liked the book, I can't say that I found it uplifting. In fact, there were parts that I found downright depressing. For instance, the relationship between Pat's parents. It seemed to me that Pat's father could have used help just as much as Pat. No silver lining ending there. The end of the story also seemed like Pat was willing to settle for this relationship with Tiffany. The silver lining to me would have been his realizing strong feelings for her just as he had for Nikki.
