Guila | 3 comments Published before 2015/2016, I read it around 2010- 2015, written in English. I believe the author had a female presenting name. The book cover possibly depicted a girl with long hair and a swing. Setting: contemporary, in the US, potentially in a sunny state like California since I don't recall any mention of snow. First chapter describes one of the twins painting/sketching a face, with flashbacks to a carnival or some event. Twin identical teen girls, one considered the rebel, one the good girl, who switch places often. One day, the rebel goes missing and no one is concerned because she is known for disappearing often. However, we discover it is actually the good girl who is missing but no one knows except for the twin. The rebel twin tries to find her sister, she goes to an abandoned house and ends up having some sort of hallucination in the attic. She also ends up in a car mechanic garage and finds some connection between her twin and the mechanic (possible mention of a stained mattress). In the end, she ends up in a basement and finds her sister tied up. SPOILER:

The police come eventually, but the good twin died and the rebel must keep pretending to be her.
