Historical guy named Merric, Merrick? Scottish man wealthy architect builder has become very talented, since she was last saw him. I am 90% certain they are married but there was a misunderstanding about faithfulness? and now the heroine is back in town, he's feeling pretty smug. The town is his comfort zone and she is the new kid in town. He's more well known. She needs something to be built, she has the money and hates that he is the most skilled competent architect but reluctantly awards him the project. There is an incidence or 2 where they get together with him telling her off course I'm the best at this type of work blah blah. He really wants her to see him as to what he has accomplished since they last were together and by the time she does it is almost too late. It's a great story I'd love to reread.
