Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The toppler is almost here - just one more day! This week has flown.

message 62: by Odette (new)

Odette (odman) | 997 comments 4 am Sunday morning start for me!

message 63: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments What are you planning on reading first?

I'm going to start with The Bell in the Lake on audiobook and Daughters of the Dragon on Kindle.

I downloaded The Bell in the Lake this morning, and I'm ready to go. The books I've picked this toppler seem to be bigger than what I generally pick, may not have been the best strategy.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Odette wrote: "4 am Sunday morning start for me!"

That's an early start for sure! You'll need lots of coffee.

message 65: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I have my 3 ready to roll so I will see what appeals most tomorrow!

I have 5 hours left in my current listen and I'd love to get that done and dusted before the toppler starts but I'll probably not going to happen. If I have to put it aside for the week with just a couple of hours left that will really bug me!

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments My "week of Mondays" is finally over. The spreadsheet has been updated. It is ready to receive all these READ book points. :)

Here's hoping there will be no week of Monday's next week. Good job on the spreadsheet.

Depends, are we allowed books in padded cells? :)

I hope so!

message 71: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments My book is done. I have 2 hours left on the audio. I am running errands this am so I should finish it while driving around.

So I should be ready to start reading at the beginning of the toppler, my lunchtime.

message 72: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I finished my book too! I dumped my planned morning swim in favour of a walk - much more audio friendly LOL

So I'm ready to start at 5pm local time. I'm going to start with my Chicago book, Practical Magic

message 73: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I've found a book I can read for Berlin, 4, Read a book with art as a significant theme, An Artist of the Floating World.

message 74: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Do we have a Location book for Berlin? I've just come across one in my library, The Child. If needed I could prioritise this over Heir to Sevenwaters as I might not have time to get 5 books done. I'll see how the week progresses.

message 75: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Margo - I've added An Artist of the Floating World to Berlin 4. Esther has one slotted for Berlin location. Does The Child fit another task?

message 76: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments No, I was just trying to be a good team player, I don't actually want to listen The Child LOL. It was a freebee from audible and it's a full cast narration. I picked it up because I like some of the narrators and at that time I didn't know how annoying I found FC narration ;-p

I'm good with An Artist of the Floating World though, I like Kazuo Ishiguro.

I presume we are still trying to complete Berlin as well as Boston?

message 77: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I don't like full cast audiobooks either, so I don't blame you.

We have Chicago filled and only one in Boston. We can focus on Berlin to try to complete it.

message 78: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I see notification are gone again..
I am back.... and I am not going back out without a paddle. It is raining cats and dogs. At it is going down to -20C tonight, I suspect that figure skating will not only be in the olympics.

I am currently listening to the last 45 minutes of my audiobook. Not a bad timing.

message 79: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments The starter pistol has been fired, and we can start our reads. Enjoy your books, Ladies.

It's a good day to stay inside and read then. :)

BTW, do we have a reporting thread set up?

Easy to know I'm a European - imagine mixing up Boston and Chicago LOL

@Esther, I can't even imagine that kind of cold and ice :( Rain I'm no stranger too! Take care of yourself and stay warm.

Happy toppler all :-D

message 83: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I just finished reading a book for a team challenge that had to be reported by tonight, so I'm ready to start reading for the Toppler. I'll begin at the top of my list and work my way down. Probably :)

message 84: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I'm 2-1/2 hours into my audiobook and so far it's been a huge information dump. Ugh! I hope he's ready to tackle the story, because I sure am.

message 85: by Odette (new)

Odette (odman) | 997 comments I am making a good start on The Island of Sea Women, which I am enjoying. I had planned to help out somewhere this morning, but unfortunately event had to be cancelled. Now, I have some free time to read!

message 86: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Odette, I loved that story :-)

I have 2 hours left to go on Magic Lessons. So far it is just like the film, interesting but little depth. I was was hoping to delve a bit deeper into the characters.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I have 4 hours left on my audiobook. I started my Kindle book, Daughters of the Dragon. Before I knew it, I was halfway through.

I received notification that my hold on Cold Vengeance is available so I will add it to my list for London 10.

message 89: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished my first book, The Bell in the Lake. It was a but of a mixed bag for me.

I will start Midnight at the Blackbird Café next. I'm just going to take a short break.

message 90: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Finished Practical Magic. It was pretty boring. I definitely won't be continuing that series.

Starting Sistersong and so far so good.

message 91: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I think that was one of those cases where the movie was better than the book.

message 92: by Odette (new)

Odette (odman) | 997 comments I finished my first book, The Island of Sea Women, which I really liked and found very interesting. It was history I was not familiar, especially the traditional life of the women divers.
Now to the second read Enigma of China

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished my second book, Daughters of the Dragon. I highly recommend this book. It exposes the shameful history of the Japanese occupation of Korea during WWII where they forced young girls into being sex slaves. There are parts that are extremely difficult to read, but it is such a great read.

I can add a new book to the list. I will take Berlin 3 (MC/Title Queen or Princess) and read The Queen's Poisoner

Lanelle | 4020 comments Esther, thanks for compiling the updates. It's nice to see how we're doing.

message 97: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Thanks Esther.

I haven't had as much time as I'd like for reading today. I'm nearly half way through Sistersong, it's not as good as I'd hoped. I made a small start on An Artist of the Floating World.

message 98: by Margo (last edited Feb 14, 2022 12:16PM) (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I can do Berlin, 10, person with a tattoo on cover. The Butterfly Tattoo The Butterfly Tattoo by Philip Pullman .

I'm down for Heir to Sevenwaters but this one is short. I'd still like to read Heir as I need it for the annual challenge but just in case life gets in the was I can read Butterfly first. The nerve of people interfering with my listening during a toppler!

message 99: by Esther (new)
