Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me find a book I'm trying to remember. It was published in either the 80s or the 90s and was geared towards teenagers. I would have read it in the late 90s or early 2000s. The main character was named (I think) Jennifer. She lived with her dad, step mom, and little half sibling but I can't remember the gender. I think maybe she had some abandonment issues with her mom leaving her with her dad, but don't really remember. She was formerly in a relationship with a guy who killed one of her high school classmates and was physically abusive to her. I think maybe drugs were involved? She takes up running as a hobby to help deal with the stress. She meets a guy in a park and they start dating. I think his name is Derek but could be off base. He has lots of muscles and lifts weights because his dad knocked him around. She tells him she wants him to quit smoking, so he does by eating hard candy. Anyone recognize this book? TIA!
