- Read it in New Zealand as a pre-teen back in 2003-2005
- Definitely a Science Fiction in my memory as the book started with a boy/man wandering in the sky in a hot air balloon machine or just a flying machine in general
- a lot of fixing of that flying machinery
- I remember a girl with a scar on her face is introduced in the book, because she seemed very self-conscious of the scar
- They were running away from someone, Saint Valentine, or something similar to Valentine
- Was there a machine man/robot?
- I believe there was a second book to this, but very unsure

- the book cover was red when I first read it...
