Damien Drake, Hirsch’s henchman, develops feelings for Bella. This is a man who’s never had the ability to experience emotion in his lifetime, after having witnessed his mother’s murder when he was three years old. What was different about Bella that had him dismantle some walls? What did you make of him?

Anita (anitanodiva) | 2973 comments He was definitely a sociopath and was unable to feel emotions. I think he would have had the same personality disorder even if his mother had not been murdered in front of him. Bella didn't want anything from him, yet she was able to connect with whatever scrap of humanity Damien had. I thought he was sad, very, very sad.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3501 comments I felt a little sorry for Damien. He was a bad man, but I didn't classify him as a sociopath. I felt that he closed off all feelings which helped him deal with what he witnessed at such a young age. Deep down there was something that made him feel. For some reason, Bella could reach in an touch his heart.

Robin (robinmy) | 2466 comments I didn't know what to make of this guy. In my book, he was a sociopath. I don't know why he responded to Bella. She talked to Damien, trying to pump him for information. I don't remember her telling him anything that would make him respond to her.

I looked up the definition of a sociopath and here’s what I found;

“A person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.”

I think this fits Damien. He was impervious to pain, even when inflicted upon himself. His feelings for Bella were an oddity, one I struggle to understand and explain. I think he had his own code about people and she broke the mold. Maybe it was because she didn’t seem to judge him and related to him in a way no one else had, just by talking to him on a personal level.

Whatever the reason, Damien was willing to give his life for Bella in saving her brother.

Melissa (melissasd) | 676 comments Damien Drake is your typical sociopath, but I think he started having feelings for Bella because she listened to him. She showed him attention that no one else had.
