Ana | 45 comments Hello all,

Hope this is allowed!

I need helping finding YA comps for a MS I will be querying soon. All that's missing are the comps. I am hoping some vivacious YA readers can help me out with recommendations.

Books containing any of the following themes:

-self discovery
-broken friendships
-taboo crushes
-witnessing a murder

Bonus for any written:

-Stylistically with shorter sentences
-an introspective voice
-told in first person narrative by 15-16 year old girl who has an aloof/carefree personality

Thank you for the recommendations!

Nicole-Mary | 83 comments Undone, by Cat Clarke, satisfies the forbidden crush and broken friendships part, but I'm not entirely sure that it has the correct vibe/subtexts. If you're okay with sharing a blurb, I could probably tell you more decisively whether it matches or not. (I will say that the speaker in that book is decisively NOT aloof or carefree whatsoever, so possibly take this recommendation with a pinch of salt)

That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head, but I can share a tip I used to find comp titles for my novel with you.

In Goodreads, you can be given recommendations for books off of what you have already shelved, so I'd recommend making a new shelf, adding as many books as you can find or are told are vaguely similar, and then go through the recommendations given, and see if anything suits you.

It can be a little hit or miss at times, but I was in the same position as you, and I've managed to find 2 comp titles that I'm 100% happy with in this way.

Sorry that this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I hope it helps in some way, and if you need clarification on anything feel free to let me know :)
