Alex has been keeping his head down since the events of the last book, but of course after all that has happened, he now has a kind of reputation. He's soon drawn into another adventure when a dead barghest is found that was stripped of all its magic which is pointing towards a dark ritual; a woman shows up at his doorstep in dire need of help and his apprentice Luna makes friends with a questionable young man. Yup, Alex has his hands full again and needs to figure out who exactly he can count as allies and who as enemy.
All up I really enjoyed this story. Alex is an interesting character, being a diviner he is not all powerful as a lot of other mages and can't just fight his way out of problems, sometimes he has to run away and is not ashamed to do so. I had a little bit of an issue with Luna in this book. I seem to remember that I really liked her in the first book and that she had a lot of potential; this time she made a lot of dumb and immature decisions throughout most of the story. Arachne, the giant spider, is definitely my favourite character which is quite a surprise, seeing as I really don't like spiders that much. I hope to find out a lot more about her in future books.

Well, I think this was the worst book I've read so far this year. I just don't enjoy the fated-to-be-mated storyline anymore with an alpha male who basically forces himself into the heroine's life stating 'You are mine' on a constant basis...well, in this case 'you are ours', seeing as our leading wolf shifter lady is the reluctant mate to two guys of the above description. Granted, they try to woo her and are at times really sweet and I did develop a soft spot for Ethan, the shy kodiak bear shifter, but all up it just wasn't for me. I was also put off by her mother who was a little too interested in her daughter's sex life and had no issues with having two basically complete strangers drug her daughter...
I didn't expect much of a storyline, after all it is an erotic romance, but I would have hoped for a little more than the flimsy and very obvious mystery that I got.
The steamy scenes were ok, but I wish they were edited a little better, some of the wording was just plain terrible...the amount of times she talked about her cleft...anyhow, I most likely won't be going on with this series.

I wasn't too sure about this book going into it, but I ended up enjoying it and I'm glad I took a chance on it. Nathan is a half white (good), half black (bad) witch. His mother was a powerful white witch and he grew up with her side of the family. His father is a very powerful black witch. On his 17th birthday, he must receive three gifts and the blood of a family member to come into his powers as a witch or he will die. When he is separated from his family, he goes on a quest to find his father and discover who and what he is. The plot is full of action, suspense and intriguing world building. I admired Nathan's determination to survive. The romance was subtle and felt a little forced in this first book but I'm hoping it will develop in the next book of the series.

An enjoyable book set in Boston in the future with an interesting mix of fantasy, paranormal, romance, mythology and even a little bit of suspense. Cacy and Eli are paramedic partners who become romantically involved and have to overcome several obstacles to be together. Cacy has the power to escort souls to the afterlife that have been marked for death by the Kere. I really liked the whole premise of the Ferry family's powers, the Kere and the Fates. I empathized with poor Eli and how things turned out for him. I am looking forward to Galena and Declan's story in the next book but I hope Cacy and Eli make appearances in future books too.

Normally I don’t read series books out of order but was told that this could be considered a stand- alone book. I need this one for a challenge so decided to jump in mid-way through the series. I love a good mystery and have several of these books but haven’t read any of them. I will definitely begin this series – like I need to start another one – soon!
Detective Harry Bosch has been assigned a cold case where the victim has died almost ten years after the actual crime. Now, that the death has been ruled a homicide, it is up to Harry and his new rookie partner, Detective Lucia Soto, to solve it. Harry and Lucia run into road blocks due to missing details.
I found all of the characters, especially Harry, to be believable. I also listened to this on audible, which took me a while to get used to the narrator. At first, he was rather monotone but did pick up towards the middle.

I was still editing my posting when you saw it. I was in the middle of changing my cover to the one that I read. It is now posted. Thanks for letting me know!

Phew, I'm glad those last two shelves didn't end up counting for anything because I still haven't finished those book. On to Witches though, yay! I've saved this book for this shelf just in case and it's a perfect fit, just over 200 pages!

I have always loved pretty much everything by Nora Roberts. Her contemporary light reads are always my go to books. However, there books is extremely dark and is not like any of the others that I have read. At times, the storyline is confusing as it jumps from the past to the present, but the past is important as it details the reasons behind the plot.
Iona’s parents were always absent in her life, and she was raised and adored by her grandmother who was from Ireland. Iona decides to go to Ireland to visit the land of her ancestors and finally meets her cousins. Each of the cousins and Iona have a special gift that works best when they are all together.
My main reason for the lower stars is due to the narrator.
I did listen to this one, and it took a while to get used to Katherine Kellgren who seemed to make everything dramatic, which was extremely annoying.

After not really having been sold on the first installment in this series, I was quite surprised at how much I loved this on!
The story begins a few months after the last book ended. Abby finds herself in another messy situation. Moira is away in Faerie to look after her mother, the Queen, and Abby is left behind to care for Moira's son as well as deal with the other responsibilities that come with being the Protectorates TouchStone. Things get complicated when another fae shows up claiming to be the new Protectorate and the Crossroads are closed so a large number of fae are trapped in the mortal realm. Of course Abby is off to save the day and along the way she finds out a lot more about her past than she has bargained for.
I really enjoy the characters in this series. They are so well written and and even the supporting characters have their own arc and are fleshed out beautifully. I also really enjoy the world building and finding out more about the different factions. The one thing I'm not overly fond of is the love triangle that emerged but that's just because I'm a little tired of them on the whole...I'm definitely team Talivar though.
The book ended with a massive cliffhanger and I can't wait to pick up #3 as soon as possible.

Review:
Haunted on Bourbon Street was a freebie I found on Amazon. It was an interesting read, but it definitely felt like it was missing some things. The story was compelling enough to keep me reading quickly, but there were events and backstories and characters that needed much more development. It almost felt like their should have been a book before this one that introduced Jade and her life before moving to New Orleans. Dan was particularly problematic as he was said to be acting completely out of character, but it didn't feel that way in this story since that was the only Dan that the reader had been introduced too. Also, there is a lot of mentions to thing that happened in Jade's past (her mother, something that happened in a foster home, her fear of witches), but they are never fleshed out or developed. They just become passing footnotes and that really is a shame. While I found Jade's new life in New Orleans really interesting, the lack of plot and character development is making me hesitate as to whether or not I would buy the second book in the series.

I love H.P. Mallory's Peyton Clark series and this book is a good start to another enjoyable series. Jolie Wilkins is a psychic who runs her own fortune telling business when she meets Rand, a warlock. He offers her a job and she discovers abilities she did not know she had. Jolie and Rand were likeable characters and I loved the author's humor. I look forward to Jolie's adventures in the next book.
