Anyone read a book in which we meet an old man with a bag of buttons? Think he was a wise man, something to do with a library or bookshop maybe. I think he puts his hand in the bag to feel the buttons and that it is his most treasured object. The protagonist - maybe a young boy, possibly steals it.
