Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments As we are reading Origen's Commentary on the Gospel According to John, it would be helpful to get an idea of Origen's view of the Scripture and his method of interpretation, especially to those new to Origen.

I've posted three comments under the topic "Origen: An Ideal Scholar", one based on my own impression, one quoted from Origen's protégé Gregory Thaumaturgus, one from Origen's own work On First Principles.

There is much more to learn...

The following are three screenshots of the timeline. The files are stored on my own hard drive / OneDrive. I don't guarantee to keep them out there for ever. Obviously, holler if OneDrive won't let you see the images.

Goodreads is protecting you by not allowing me to use an href to make the links tidy and clear.

The asterisks mark "one of the five ancient patriarchates."

I highly recommend the ACCS.

That table is very helpful.

According to ACCS, there is a 30-year overlap between Origen and his predecessor (and mentor?) in the Alexandria school, Clement of Alexandria, and Origen lived for another 40 years after the death of Clement. Dionysius, Origen's student, survived Origen by only 10 years (and we don't know when he was born). I wonder what happened to the Alexandria school after Origen.
