SOLVED. YA (I think). Kid around 10-15 years old lives with his single mom and all he knows about his dad is he was a sperm donor and was supposed to be really smart. [s]

Basically the kid lives with his mom who has a lot of problems I believe she either used drugs and was constantly trying to maybe kill herself due to depression. She tells the kid he is supposed to be smart because she got artificially inseminated from this special sperm donor clinic where only exceptional people donate. This is all pretty early into the book so I wouldn't call any of this a spoiler. I read the book about 7 years ago.
