Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments COVID has disrupted our lives and our group activity in the past two years, and it seems likely to continue into the future. But life must go on, and perhaps it is time to resume our group reads as well.

For our first group read of 2022, I would recommend Origen's Commentary on John. I've made a couple of posts titled "Origen: An Ideal Scholar". If that doesn't pique your interest in this Church Father, I don't know what would. :)

Is there something that you have been wanting to read for some time but haven't, or something that you have read and enjoyed and want to share with the group? Now is the time to recommend it for group read.

The focus of this group is on the writings of the Church Fathers in the first seven centuries, but we can delve into others if there is enough interest.

Ser R | 1 comments I joined the group a while ago but I haven’t read with you guys. Is there a particular pase? A end date? A timeline?

Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments Hi Sergio,

Welcome to the group!

Once we decide on the title, we'll post a reading schedule that people can follow, and, if available, we will also provide the text online, so everybody can access the reading material freely.

John Angerer | 67 comments Happy New Year Nemo, I will vote for Origen’s Commentary. I’ve been wanting to read Origen and his commentary would be a good place to start.

Welcome Sergio!

Joshua | 1 comments Origen is a wonderful choice!

Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments We've read three of Origen's works in this group back in 2017: Against Celsus, On First Principles and On Prayer. They are all very good, and I'm sure his Commentaries will not disappoint.

I need some volunteers to help with the group read, however, as I probably won't have the time or the knowledge required to lead the discussion of this profound work in a way that would benefit the group.

Armando Maese Jr. (ajmaese) | 1 comments I'm interested in taking part as well. Joined a while back, but this will be my first read with you all. Looking forward to it.

Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments Origen it is.

I've created a discussion folder, and posted the reading schedule and links to download the texts from our group library.

Nemo (nemoslibrary) | 1505 comments Thanks to John Angerer for noticing that the link to the discussion folder (immediately above) does't work on GoodReads App, although it shows in web browsers. I've updated the link target to the "Reading Schedule and Text" topic/thread.
