This was a reread for me. I loved it the first time, so I went back and read it again. I loved it again! There is so much here that I can relate to that it was worth reading again.

Review: I enjoyed this book, but I'm a little worried about the next one. I do NOT like it when mates are separated. I don't just mean by distance. I'm mean by magical means to sever or suppress the bond. It makes my heart hurt! But I will push on to find out what happens to everybody.

Review As I started reading this, I realized I remembered almost nothing from the first book, which I read 4 years ago. As the story went on there were references to events in book one which did help a little. This book started off slow but got really good after the middle and became a page-turner. I can tell the author is well-versed in Russian history and folklore. I found myself Googling certain names and terms for more information. I now want to read the next book to see how the story ends.
Monica and Ira, you haven't posted anything this week. Are you on track to post a review by Friday at midnight CT?

The Year We Hid Away by Sarina Bowen

How It Fits: #2 The Ivy Years
Date Read: 2/3
Rating: 4*
Review
This is the second in the Ivy Years series and centers around the story of Bridger and Scarlet who are introduced as a couple at the end of book 1. There was some overlap in both books as the story begins before they are introduced in book 1. Like the first, although a "hockey romance" it is not the main theme of the book. Both are hiding secrets while trying to complete their college course. As their secrets are uncovered they work together to solve their problems while their friendship develops into something more. Hoping I can fit the next book in with the next roll.

Review: It was an enjoyable book. I really like the characters and the chemistry between them. I also like the setting wich is 20's Australia. The main character is strong and smart and takes charge in most situations. She is not a person tha goes unnoticed. The mystery was good, but not great. As a whole I think there is alot of potential in the series and I look forward to reading more books.
I am sorry I dissapeared this week. There was alot of road work beeing done outside my office, so I was having an headache the whole week. I did manage to read a short book for the game, but this is all I could do. I hope next week will be better.

Thanks, Monica!"
I just realized that this is a first in a series so I am going to count it for that instead of it being for the Alternate Favorite Author, if that is okay.

Or you could just count it for both and earn the 2-in-1 bonus point... ;)

Review: I love Johanna Lindsey's Mallory Novels, this one is different and yet I still enjoyed it. I am used to her books being set in a historical setting, this was a nice change. This book was set in 2139 and the main character is an Amazon woman. I loved her from the beginning. I will continue with this series.
I hope I got the review in before midnight. I was on the phone with my son for 2 hours so that cut into my time tonight.

Just don't roll us a 12 next week and entirely skip the 30s! Anything possible under a12 and I can read #3.
I want to continue my series! :)

Me too 🤣
I’m hoping we can use Louise’s for the 3 books in a series bonus and mine for the complete series bonus. Mine only has 4 books, and Louise’s has 6 or 7, so that order makes the most sense to me.

Review: It was fun to dive back into the world of Mythos Academy. Rory is definitely a more bad*ss MC than Gwen, and I think I prefer her. Ian is wonderful. I can't wait to continue the series!

Review: Let's be honest, basically the same thing happens in every book. Cars blow up, someone dies, Grandma wisecracks, Ranger looks hot, Lula eats chicken and donuts, Stephanie flirts with cute guys.... I think at this point I could write the next SP book myself. I usually rate them by how much screen time Ranger gets and this time it's not much at all which is very disappointing. Still, I did laugh a few times and I was entertained so 3 stars it is.

I was so looking forward to this sequel. I found that I wouldn't have understood it if I hadn't read the first one. It spends a lot of time in the past, also. I was disappointed to find that the elderly lady was up to no good as a child, also. It was worth the read, but definitely after the first book in the series.

Review
This started very slow and I struggled to get into the story. About a 3rd of the way into the book the pace picked up and considerably improved. So much so I actually finished it in a couple of evenings. Looking at the other books in the series they are effectively standalone with a common theme.

How it fits: #2 in Temeraire series
Rating: 4 stars
Review: This book is slower than the first one but it takes the story to a new location in China. I really enjoy the characters of this series especially Temeraire, the dragon. He and his relationship with Will Lawrence is the main reason to continue with the series. This book focuses more on the politics and cultures of this world and the developing bond between Will Lawrence and Temeraire and less on the action. Luckily I enjoyed those aspects of the story, since I don't need action all the way to keep me entertained. I am definitely continuing with the series.
I am out right now and not able to post but I will be on later tonight. I’m working a basketball game. I will post my review when I get home.

How it Fits: #2 in Ly-San-Ter Family
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This book continues the Ly-San-Ter Family story. You have Warriors who have rules to keep their women protected, safe, whatever you want to call it, almost controlled. I enjoy the interaction of the characters. You have very strong minded, stubborn women in this series and I just enjoy how they challenge their men!!
