I read this book I believe either last year or the year before that. Two smuggler boys live on an island where gods and goddesses are rumored to exist. Everyone on the island makes their living off godware, parts of the gods. The gods presumably died after they all fought each other. I think his name is Jeb, but one of the boys becomes bold and gets them in trouble. The main character gets sent to a priest asylum where he takes care of them. The second boy comes back and forces the main character into a risky mission where they find a heart of a goddess. This goddess has tentacles and has a beautiful singing voice. The heart starts to transform Jeb into a monster. I don't want to spoil it too much.
