The night shift is referred to as the third watch. Were you familiar with this term before this story?

~Melissa~ | 429 comments No - this was the first I heard it. It's just called Night Shift or OverNights in my world of healthcare.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments When I read Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series, I remember him remarking that night shift was referred to as third watch.

Robin, I thought they called it the late show?

I’ve never heard the term before, or at least I don’t recall.

That's a series I'd like to read at some point. I've watched a few of the episodes on tv and enjoyed it.

Oh, Melissa, it’s so good! We read it as a group a few years ago.

You're right. There was even a book with that title. Now I'm not sure where I've heard Third Watch before. Was there a TV show with that name?

You should give it a try. Several of the storylines in the books have been used to some extent on the show. I think you'd like the books.

Robin, you’re right! There was a TV show with that name and it centered around that shift from 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments Now that I look at the link, I remember it.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 909 comments I don't remember ever hearing this shift referred as Third Watch. In my husband's company, they called it the Midnight Shift.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3481 comments I hadn't heard that before. I always called it the grave yard shift.

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1203 comments I'd never heard this term either.
