PattyMacDotComma | 1295 comments What a genre-busting delight The Nancys is! NZ author R.W.R. McDonald's debut is a funny, amateur-sleuth mystery with bright, young Tippy Chan and her over-the-top gay uncle and his beau.

Flavia's enthusiasm for chemistry and poisons is scary stuff! I know she's only about 11 so people may find her hard to believe, but there are young kids this bright. She is a such fun!

Kathryn Bashaar | 187 comments I'm about halfway through Anne Tyler's French Braid. So far I don't recommend it. To be blunt, it is boring. I've read Tyler before, and I realize that she writes about everyday family life to subtly make a larger point. But so far in this one, all I'm getting is the everydayness and it's a snooze.
