Emily Bearce | 2 comments somewhere between 1997-2003 my mom got me this tall (so probably 8.5x11) book about Christmas. It was the story of this little girl helping to get the house ready for the holidays. They cleaned the windows with vinegar and newspapers and had a recipe for hot apple cider as well as for lots of cakes and cookies.

I definitely remember there being these sugar cookies where the dough was twisted together so it looked like a candy cane. There might have also been a pink and white checkerboard cake (a battenberg?)

Each page had an oil painting sort of illustration that went along with the passages of what they did every day to ready the house leading up to Christmas. Absolutely gorgeous art.

I remember the cover being warm so probably with a lot of red in it and I remember the house in the story had bare wood floors and a page about dusting the staircase.

If anyone remembers this that would be amazing. Really hope it wasn't some tiny print my mom found at an arts and crafts fair.

Edit: The MC might have had the name Emily? It definitely wasn't one of those "Children's Name Here" books though.
