Wikipedia has a lengthy list of adaptations of The War of the Worlds. Other than Welles' radio broadcast, the films are probably most well known. I haven't seen any of them (with the exception of Independence Day), so I'd love to hear the opinions of those who have.
If you didn't look at the list, the Independence Day reference might be confusing. It's on the list as a sort of "spiritual adaptation," but I don't really agree. There are similarities, but not enough to consider Independence Day any more inspired by The War of the Worlds as any other alien invasion story.
Has anyone read any of the sequels also listed therein?
I read a sequel (or maybe a companion) book by another author many years back. I cannot remember the name of it and it drive me loco! I might be Edison's Conquest of Mars The Original 1898 Sequel to H G Wells' War of the Worlds, but I cannot say for sure. Anyway, I am certain there was a female major character involved, and when I check on Wikipedia (as Goodreads does not give enough information), I see no reference to a female character. But the Edison part sounds right.
