Yes! Spain is really beautiful. It has a lot of history and there are many ancient monuments, buildings... From all the cultures that have been here: Romans, Visigoths, Muslims...
Also, there is a great variety of landscapes, from mountains to beaches, and even beautiful volcanic islands.

Not yet, but I'm looking forward to It! I'm watching the old Spiderman films first. I've already watched Andrew Garfield's ones and I loved them. Have you seen It?

Well, in the region where I live (La Rioja) wine is very famous. In fact, Rioja wine is exported all over the world. That's why there are many vineyards. The villages are very small and most of them are almost uninhabited. Only retired people live there. The rest only go to the villages when there are "fiestas", which are like festivals that each village celebrates on a weekend in summer. Each village has It's own traditions. For example, on Enciso's fiestas they burn a Knight to close The festival.

The cities are generally not very big. Some are very modern, like Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao. Here, we all live in flats and the other people of the building are almost like family. There are lots of parks, green areas...

I don't mean to be offensive, but I and genuinely curious on your views of the Reconquista.

Don't worry:)
Well... I hadn't thought about that before. First of all, I think you have to bear in mind that at that time conquering was a normal thing to do. Therefore, it was understandable that the Muslims wanted to conquer the Iberian peninsula and then the Christians wanted to do the same. The only problem I have is the term Reconquista. For me, it should refer to the fact that the Christians re-conquered an already conquered territory rather than to the fact that they took over a territory because it already belonged to them before.

I don't know if I've explained myself.

So you want to emphasize the Christians conquering the Muslims over the Christians owning the land before the war? Is that what you are trying to say?

message 13: by Alishba (new)

Alishba Qadir | 24 comments Yes, because I personally believe that the land itself does not belong to anyone, so the dispute is not over it but between nations.
But that's just my point of view. I'll understand if you don't agree. What do you think?

message 14: by Austin (new)

Austin | 342 comments Mod
well of course I am biased. I think Islam is it's own civilization just as the west is and communist nations are. The west and Islamic civilization have been rivals and equals for most of history up until 100 years ago. Islam was an unstoppable military force for much of history. what took the Muslims less than 30 years to conquer took the Christians 700 years to retake at least in terms of Spain. There are other Christian holy sites that are still under Muslim control today. Personally I don't see any shame in the Reconquista nor should a Muslim be ashamed of the conquest. Our ancestors were great more so than most people today.

I dunno I see today as strange and different compared to all of history. Today is not like at any other point in history. I almost think once something happens we will return to the status que of history.

Oh also what is dating like as a Muslim? Do you like any guys?

message 18: by Alishba (new)

Alishba Qadir | 24 comments Dating as a Muslim is quite difficult. It totally depends on your parents, mostly at my age. You're supposed to marry with the person that your parents choose, which is always the "best" option for you. So if you have strict parents, you won't be able to date anyone because your parents know what is good for you and they'll find someone when it's time. But if your parents are more relaxed, you can date anyone you want and, if you want to, make them your life partner.
My parents are quite strict in that sense and I'm sure if I tell them that there's a guy that I like and who has asked me out, they wouldn't let me date him. So I'd have to keep that secret. And that'd feel very bad because that's lying and I never lie to my Parents. And If you see the other side of the story, it'd be hard for the guy I'm dating to keep all that in secret so my parents don't know. And it's completely understandable. Dating it's sooo difficult...

You can, you just type whatever you plan to type and hold down like you're going to paste something. There will be three dots and emoji should be an option then.
