George Eliot is one of my favorite authors so I'm picking her first published book, which was a bestseller in its day.

Finally got started on this last night and it's actually pretty good; she's dealing with family problems and unrequited love so far.
This is one of the best books I've ever read. Granted it is not an easy read, being filled with local dialect and such, but it is SO worth the time and effort. Eliot develops the scene and characters slowly in the first 300 pages, then events come so fast and furiously in the last half that this reader was tempted to flip to the end to see if it all worked out in the end! Love, friendship, farm/family life, betrayal, deceit, murder, court trial--it has it all. Highly recommend!
