I read Curse of the Pogo Stick by Colin Cotterill. It is set in 1977 Laos and book 5 in the series. It has quirky characters and humor.
I borrowed this eBook from the New York Public Library, which will grant a library card to anyone who lives in New York state. My library does not have all the books in this series, so I am happy to be able to read more of the series using NYPL. See nypl.org if you want to get a library card there.

I have just finished 'Paisanos: The forgotten Irish who Changed the Face of Latin America' by Tim Fanning. It is a well researched history of the Irish who travelled via Spain to South America and were influential in the independence struggles of that continent. A mixture of heroes and opportunist rogues including several inspiring women they are revered in Chile, Argentina and other countries to this day. A good read if you are interested in the history of South America.
Really interesting! the last one in particular, I didn't know anything about that..I will check it out, as I lived in Ireland and now in Spain..I am currently reading Silent Spring, by Rachel Carson
