Stephen McCarthy | 54 comments I have just finally finished 'Yeah,Yeah,Yeah' by Bob Stanley which is the history of pop music in a mere 737 pages. I gave it a 5 star rating as it is fascinating for anyone with an interest in music. I would also recommend having youtube (or your streaming service of choice) available as you read to get the full effect.

Stephen McCarthy | 54 comments A book I have promised myself for many years has finally been added to the 'Read' pile. Michael Smith's 'An Unsung Hero', the story of Antarctic explorer Tom Crean. I expect I am the last person in Ireland to read this book but it was worth the wait.
It is wonderfully written and though I knew the story it remains a tense gripping read throughout.
I was lucky enough to visit Antarctica in 2018 and our ship called at Elephant Island on our way from the Falklands. A desolate bleak place.
I also have a minor family connection to Tom Crean as my great grandfather served with him in the Royal Navy in Cork Harbour during WW1.
The book is truly an epic tale of folly, heroism and steadfast courage. It also offers some valuable lessons on leadership, in particular the contrasting styles employed by Scott and Shackleton.
It also conveys the humour and modesty of Crean as well as his loyalty.
I would heartily recommend it to all.

Lissa Oliver | 113 comments Welcome, Fiona! I'm reading Sebastien de Castell's Greatcoats series currently, on #2 Knight's Shadow. The story gets better with each book, I wouldn't usually read this genre but it was recommended and I like to try different authors. Thanks for the Khaled Hosseinni recommendation.

An adult fairytale, it was gripping and sinister, and I think would appeal to any reader, regardless of preferred genre. It's just a simple classic story very well told, very engaging and entertaining. I thoroughly recommend it!
