Children's book- A girl takes a walk and imagines inanimate objects turning into animals. Read early 90's

I loved this book as a kid, but can't find it. I think the illustrations were that mid-century monochrome printing style- all green, black and white. A little girl walks to school or the library or something, and on the way the things she sees on her walk come to life as wild animals. I think there was definitely a spider plant that turned into something, don't think it turned into a spider, though. Does this ring a bell for anyone?
