It had a picture of a gray cat on the cover. It was somewhere between middle-grade fiction and YA; I'm not sure. I read it around 2012. The premise was the protagonist's parents got divorced, and she has to leave her nice house to live in a house that's very old and haunted. She's very angry about it in a typical teenager fashion. There's a scene where she examines herself in the mirror in the haunted house and feels the presence of something watching her from the corner; a dark, shadowy thing.
But the scene I remember most involves a man running naked in the sky, cursed to run eternally from a chariot of horses always chasing him. There's also a black dog that represents ill omen in the traditional fairytale sense. Eventually, by the end of the story, the man comes down from the sky and his curse is ended and he's able to go free; I think he may have been related to the main character, but I'm not sure.
