My ears are in Italy with Commissario Guido Brunetti in Dressed for Death, and my eyes are in Turkey with Labyrinth and in the U.S. with Murder at Black Oaks.

I’ve been so wrapped up in my book that I forget to tell you I’m in Germany with A Woman in Berlin, originally published in the early 1950s by a writer who wished to remain anonymous (she has since been identified). It was recommended by a friend who described it as the most unforgettable yet little known classic, and I have to say it’s shaping up that way. It’s a woman’s diary from April-June 1945, as the Russians arrive in Berlin, Hitler and others die, and VE Day is declared. After overdosing on WW2 literature a few years ago, I was happy to pick this up with the promise of delivering a completely different perspective from those I’m accustomed to.

I was also lucky enough to stumble upon a tired but intact cloth-bound hardcover from 1955 at a local charity shop for about $1 😃

The Orange Girl by Jostein Gaarder The Orange Girl by Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder is a short and sweet, enchanting tale set in Oslo about a 15 year old boy who discovers a letter from his deceased father. His father writes the story of his meeting the mysterious and captivating Orange Girl on a tram. This is a beautiful and moving read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ here is my review
