Just completed "City of the Dead" by Jonathan Kellerman; another good Milo Sturgis/Alex Delaware mystery. This is my 123rd read this year (surpassed my Reading Challenge goal). I'm back to reading the Virgil Flowers series by John Stanford again. I believe that will be my last read for the year.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Tough, stubborn young teen Duchess Day Radley says she is an outlaw and will do whatever she has to to protect her little brother in
We Begin at the End
by Chris Whitaker. Good story, bit too long.
3.5★ My review of We Begin at the End
I wound up a yearly challenge with a new favourite book, Too Much Lip, by Aussie Aboriginal author Melissa Lucashenko. It is like sitting on the verandah with an indigenous family in a small town in Northern NSW.Love, jealousy, land rights. Lots of language, both Aboriginal and swearing. Loved both the written and audio editions.
5★ My review of Too Much Lip

I listened to Exiles
. I liked the story but recommend reading it. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Shot
by Parnell HallStanley Hastings #7 in which Stan is hired and then fired by a lady suspicious of her boyfriend. As you might suspect things go downhill from there. Another fine entry in the series, light and entertaining.
The 19th book in the Cork O'Connor series and, to my way of thinking, one of the stronger entries. My review of

The Way to the Spring: Life and Death in Palestine by journalist Ben EhrenreichMy review -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Started Murder After Christmas by Rupert Latimer largely on the good words said by Martin Edwards in his introduction. A sale price also led me to scoop up Edwards' The Life of Crime: Unravelling the mysteries of fiction’s favourite genre, which is going to take me awhile to read.
I’m almost done with Strangers to Ourselves: Unsettled Minds and the Stories that Make Us by Rachel Aviv. This book—nonfiction—has been a bit of a trigger for me. Might not have been the right time to read the book, but it is wonderfully researched and the people she chose to include are heroes as far as I’m concerned.

I was pleasantly surprised by Joanna Bourne's Spymasters series. It's historical romantic suspense with more emphasis on the political intrigue than on the romantic pairing. Set during 1790s to about 1820 in France and England.
The Forbidden RoseMy review for the series -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Reading Fox Tales by Tomiko Morimi and next is The Good Son by You-Jeong Jeong. Eagerly awaiting The Pitfall, the basis of the 1948 noir film.
I finished reading my 168th novel this morning. My goal for 2022 was 170 books. I almost reached it.
I just listened to Death In Brittany
. The first in a new to me series. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Starvation Heights: A True Story of Murder and Malice in the Woods of the Pacific Northwest by Gregg OlsenThis true crime book tells the story of Dr. Linda Burfield Hazzard, an advocate of the 'fasting cure' for illness. Sadly Linda was more of a murderer than a healer.
Well researched story. 4 stars

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I finished off last year's reading with Irish author Claire Keegan's wonderful novella, Foster, about a girl who is fostered by a couple while her mum has a baby. Loved it. Great start to the year!
