Lying Beside You
is the third in the Cyrus haven series and should be read in order. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished reading Pachinko by Min Jin Lee. I didn't love it and I found myself starting to skim through the second half, which is never a good sign. So frustrating!
Finished the 2016 Shamus Award winner for Best Novel in the form of Brutality by Ingrid Thoft which is the 3rd in the Fina Ludlow series.

I also finished Right Behind You by Lisa Gardner

As soon as I finish The Orphanage (which will likely be today) I'm planning on taking a breather before diving into Nights of Plague and reading a crime novel from China Bad Kids by Zizin Chen (Pushkin).
Just finished a fun, very engaging cozy mystery, Up to No Gouda

Now starting THE NIGHT MARKET by Jonathan Moore, a near future thriller published back in 2018.I read his mystery/thriller novel FIVE DECEMBERS earlier this year, which he published under the pen name James Kestrel. It won both the Edgar and Barry Awards as the Best Novel of 2022. It was an excellent read and it put Moore on my radar to look for his other earlier stuff.
Richard Flanagan is a favourite author of mine, a Tasmanian, and I can see why The Sound of One Hand Clapping was on the award lists in 1998. It's the story of a migrant family who came to Tasmania in the 1950s. Australia wasn't war-torn Europe, but life for them was no picnic.
4.5★ My review of The Sound of One Hand Clapping

I read book 5 in the Lane Winslow series A Sorrowful Sanctuary by Iona WhishawMy wife and I are enjoying this series and recommend it to cozy mystery fan(no graphic violence, no profanity).

The first book in the Dox series. Dox is the bit-part character in Barry Eisler's John Rain and Livia Lone series and makes a resounding entrance in this one.My review of
- Amok by Barry Eislerhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Just getting into Bad Kids by Zijin Chen. So far it's okay. I'm just excited that it's a Chinese-language novel translated -- far too few of those.
The Darkest Game
by Joseph SchneiderTully Jarsdel #3, recommend series be read in order. This is the best of the series, an outstanding example of the modern police procedural. 5 stars, highest recommendation.
Not quite halfway through the novella, The Final Solution by Michael Chabon. First read this a little over 15 years ago, and so far it's still holding up as the best Sherlock Holmes pastiche I've ever read, though Holmes' name is never mentioned.
In 1944 an elderly man sees a boy walking along the railroad tracks outside his home. On the boy's shoulder is a parrot, and the parrot speaks in German, singing or reciting numbers, unlike the boy who is mute. Later, when a man is murdered trying to steal the parrot, the local police ask the old man's help and the mystery proves so tempting, he turns away from his beehives for a time.

Clouds Without Water
by Garry HarperIn 1844, the preacher of a church in a farming town says he knows the Second Coming of Jesus will occur in six months.....and the townsfolk better get ready.
Good portrait of a charismatic leader and a 'cult.' 3.5 stars

Yes indeedy, Nancy! It was wild and wonderful and based on a lot of fact, hard to believe though that is.
5★ My review of Gould's Book of Fish
The short story, Sweat, is from the American South. The acclaimed Harlem Renaissance writer, Zora Neale Hurston, wrote wonderful, real dialogue. This is from 1926 - I loved it.
5★ My review of Sweat with links to the story online
I've been meaning to read Kent Haruf's much-loved Plainsong for years, and I'm glad I finally did. Wonderful people on the plains of Colorado. He wrote two more books about them, so I can see where they go.
4★ My review of Plainsong
The Favor
by Nora MurphyTwo professional women, a lawyer and a doctor, find themselves in toxic abusive marriages. Then someone takes action.
Good domestic thriller that addresses a big (probably universal) problem. 3.5 stars

I've finished Bad Kids. I wasn't completely in love with the writing but the story had twist after twist after twist (especially towards the end) so it turned out to be okay.
The Murder Museum by Alice Castle ⭐⭐⭐.5 https://sandysbookaday.wordpress.com/...https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Not a thriller or mystery, but a book about current affairs in the US.Responding to the Right: Brief Replies to 25 Conservative Arguments by Nathan J. Robinson
