Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments I mostly read library books, but that means the books I own tend to get crowded out by books that have due dates. In no particular order, these are the books I own and want to read or re-read in 2022:

1) Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity in This Crisis *Finished!*
2) Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men *Sold, removed from TBR*
3) Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You *Finished!*
4) The Dragons, the Giant, the Women: A Memoir *Gifted, removed from TBR*
5) What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat *Finished!*
6) My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Mending of Our Bodies and Hearts
7) Connected from Afar *Finished!*
8) Cutting for Stone *Finished!*
9) The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World *Finished!*
10) Can't We Talk about Something More Pleasant? *Finished!*
11) The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking
12) Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space
13) The House in the Cerulean Sea *Finished!*
14) How We Show Up: Reclaiming Family, Friendship, and Community
15) Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-first Century

Here's hoping the accountability of this group helps me get through at least 12 of these in 2022! It helped me successfully climb Mt. Vancouver in 2017 and 2019, so Pike's Peak should be a piece of cake. Right? ;)

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments It was down to the wire, but I met my goal of finishing Mutual Aid by the end of the month. One down, 14 to go! I'm realizing I keep letting library books jump the line for the books I own. All but two of them are non-fiction, so what I'm going to try is suspending all of my library holds on non-fiction books for a few months until I've made more of a dent in this list.

Next up will either be My Grandmother's Hands or What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat.

Thanks for hosting this challenge! It's definitely helping me stay accountable and motivated.

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments P.S. I decided not to suspend the holds I had on a few self-help books because, well, I want the help ASAP. :)

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments Library books and life continued to pile up, so I abandoned my plans of tackling My Grandmother's Hands or What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat in favor of a shorter re-read. But I'm plugging along, not too far off pace yet.

Recommitting to tackling My Grandmother's Hands next because I'm expecting it to be a challenging read and want to dive in before my brain builds it up too much.

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments I realized I don’t actually want to read one of the books on my list anymore. (After buying it, I found out the author has some beliefs I strongly disagree with. It has been on my shelf for almost two years, and there are other books on this subject written by authors whose beliefs align with my values.) Time to sell it to my local used bookstore and move on!

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments I decided to listen to the audiobook for a book on my list because it felt less daunting, and I knew the author, Jason Reynolds, would read it well. After listening, I decided I wanted to keep the book as a reference for down the road. So the book is still on my shelf, the physical copy unread, but I'm embracing flexibility in 2022!

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments I'm reading Cutting for Stone and have a June buddy read planned for The Geography of Bliss, but I'm also really enjoying giving myself permission to sell/donate/gift books I realize I'm no longer interested in. I *think* I have a few replacement books that meet the eligibility criteria, but even if I don't read 12 (and meet the criteria for success) I'll be happy to clear out the list I posted on January 1st.

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments Four down, one in progress (What We Don't Talk About When We Talk About Fat), and about to start a buddy read of The Geography of Bliss. So I'm a little off pace, but think I can catch up.

Kathryn (kathrynlovescorgis) | 9 comments 7 down, 5 to go, Connected from Afar is on deck (and a short read) so might be back be able to get back on track by the end of August. I got distracted by summer book bingo for my library. :)
