I know, it's a doorstopper but it flies by. Do you the audio? I love Robert Glenisters reading of it.

I added The Ink Black Heart to my wishlist instead of preordering this time. I'm hoping to find it in a sale before I'm ready for it. It is 32 hrs and 42 mins, so another super long one. I also enjoy Robert Glenister's narration though, so that is good. I just need to find a chunk of time for listening without other books that I need to read more. Maybe I'll end up being able to use it for a challenge that will prioritize it.
I picked up 2 audiobooks in the 2-1 credit sale - Blue Labyrinth
Prince Lestat
In the Pendergast series, the next book for me is White Fire. (Blue Labyrinth) follows it. Too bad they both weren't in the sale. Now, I'll have to use a whole credit on White Fire - unless it's on overdrive. I'll have to check.
I picked up The Book of Lost and Found and The Jigsaw Man in the two for one sale. I also picked up The Fate of Ten and United as One. I wasn't buying these because my library has them, but I decided to go ahead and get the series. Hopefully, I'll actually get to them if they're in my personal library.
I also got City Dark through Kindle First and received Uncharted Waters for free for choosing a Kindle First book.
Janice wrote: "I bought Audible's daily deal for today, Remarkably Bright Creatures."I grabbed this one too. An octopus on the cover has to be good for a challenge at some point. lol
LOL! I was writing tasks for the 2023 challenge this afternoon. I should have kept that in mind. No worries. I have lots more to write.
I picked up today's daily deal, On a Quiet Street, from Audible. Then, I noticed they are having a huge sale. There are many books on my wishlist for little money. I may in trouble with this one.
I just went through my wish list only on Audible so I didn't go too crazy. I ended up with"I Capture the Castle
Logan's Run
A Treasury of Kahlil Gibran
The King Must Die
The Bull from the Sea
Vassa in the Night
Oh and we got books 4-11 of Mercy Thompson because my hubs and I like to listen to them on road trips so we decided we would like to own them and I only had books 1-3 and 13.
They are great for sales, but I made the mistake of doing that and now I have far to many books in my cart!
I bought Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience as it has been mentioned in two training courses I am doing concurrently. I've enjoyed other stuff she has done too.
I purchased 5 books, all to round out series. I got the remainder of the Wrexford & Sloan series, including the pre-order:Murder at Kensington Palace
Murder at Queen's Landing
Murder at the Royal Botanic Gardens
Murder at the Serpentine Bridge
I owned the first two on Kindle, but at 2:95 each for the sale price on audiobook, why not?
I also got A Murderous Relation.
The others remaining in the series were over $10 each and, in my opinion, too pricey. This one gave me grief. Goodreads gave me grief. As I was updating the book, I saw that I had read it. No review, no dates read. It should have said "wishlist". This has happened more than once where Goodreads arbitrarily changes my status on a book. Could I have made a mistake? Possibly, but it seems to happen too frequently for it to be my mistake. Grrr. Here I was freaking out that I needed to return it but after reviewing my records, I hadn't read it. Phew! No need to go through the hassle of returning it.
I don't even want to admit how many books I got in this sale. I spent way too much, even with them being so inexpensive. I will say that I also grabbed the Wrexford and Sloane series, all except for the one that has not published yet. I also got the last few in the Miss Fortune series and a handful of the Andy Carpenter series.

It is over for me! lol I made the mistake of going through my series to continue list. Ouch. I ended up sticking with favorite series and limited how expensive they were. I left a lot still in my wishlist at ridiculously good prices because I just couldn't get them all. Aside from favorite series, anything over $5 I tried to think if I could just wait and hope to see it in a 2 for 1 sale later. I have more than enough to read now to hold me over.
I checked out Miss Fortune, but didn't want to fork out more than $5/book because I have to add rate of exchange to it. I think it's pretty much done for me too, but I could change my mind.
I had to go back for one last peek before the sale ends. I was judicious though. I preordered the next Dune book since I have been rereading that whole series this year Dune: The Heir of Caladan and Rebecca Roanhorse's next book Tread of Angels. Also “All the Real Indians Died Off”: And 20 Other Myths About Native Americans. And I got two discworld books
The Colour of Magic and Small Gods. And now I am walking away, lol!
Damn the man! I just watched an interview with Neil deGrasse Tyson plugging his new book Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization and it was only like $6 so I bought one more in the wee hours of the audible sale. His books are ones that I like to listen to as I go to sleep
I mean - not only when I sleep :) I just like to listen to good info hopefully with pleasant voices on a sleep timer as I go to bed and DeGrasse Tyson checks both boxes. But I do listen to the books awake first!
had a meeting with my real life book club hostess to decide on our book schedule for next year. This involves sorting through the books everyone nominated and seeing what they are about and if they are available at out local library, then putting them into a reading order. Of course, I came home and had to check if they were available in the sale. I ended up buying a few. As awesome as that sale was, I'm kind of glad it's over or my laptop was going to have to end up under lock and key.
For book club I got: Take My Hand
The Love of my Life
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Then, I also grabbed:
The Hostage
The Christmas List
The Pale-Faced Lie
We had out irl book club meeting last night and next hostess did her reveal. We'll be reading The Pallbearers Club in early November, so I bought the Kindle edition.
There are 9 people in our club and we each pick two books, so we have a schedule for the next 18 months. It's nice to know what you'll be reading in advance, especially if you need to read something early to fit your schedule better or put a hold on it through the library, but there are cons to the plan as well.
So you meet every other month? We have 10 members and we meet every other month. When it's your turn to host, you pick the book. If you are interested, I have a shelf dedicated to the books we've read.
I've recently started a book club shelf, but it has books from both of my in person groups. Both groups meet every month. In one group, when we get near the end of our 18 months we all suggest a couple books and we make a schedule. We always have at least one nonfiction and one classic included. It is always at the same house and that hostess organizes the list with my help and she runs the meeting and general organization. A different person offers to bring snacks for the next meeting each month.
In the other group, we get together for lunch on the last Friday of the month. At the end of the meeting someone will suggest a book for the next meeting and will be selected by the organizer to moderate the next meeting. That person chooses the restaurant and informs the organizer who lets everyone know where and when to meet and reminds everyone of the book. The person who chose the book is responsible for coordinating with the restaurant and leading the discussion.
So one group plans ahead and the other not so much. It sounds a little confusing writing it out here, but both ways seem to work out well. I had a third book club, but I had to stop going. It was just too much.
All groups have their own setup and what works best for them. I like taking turns to host. We have a few that live out in the country, so we end up doing small road trips. The hostess does everything - picks the books, gives dates she's available to host, provides snacks and drink, and moderates the discussion. Since we take turns, we all contribute somewhat evenly. I've realized that I tend to put out too many snacks. I host next July, so I'm going to pare back. Or try.

With me attending a meeting..there is nothing such as too much snacks!! I like my munchies!! You are a great host Janice!
I have acquired:Year of No Rain
The Island of Sea Women
Such a Fun Age
The Snow Child
Becoming
Dirt Music
Not a purchase really, but I stopped by a Little Free Library today and found a new-looking hardcover copy of In Pieces by Sally Field. Really happy about that.
Yeah, most of mine are little library acquisitions now. But they aren't like normal library borrows, and not like buying, so which thread do they go into? I've settled here.I just went around the corner as my little library posts a shelfie every Friday, and there were two books I want to read, I had two I had cleaned off my shelf yesterday, and I could get there before anyone else could as I'm on leave.
So I now have:
Borderliners and
About Grace
You get some popular titles in your Little Libraries! Usually there isn't much I recognize in ours. I think this is the right place for it since they are yours to keep if you so choose.
I have a couple around my place, but the one on the house that backs ours has some incredible reader or two who donates to it. I'm pretty lucky. This was today's shelfie:
Oh dammit, I just saw while posting it that Kitchen is in there. Lexx just suggested I go check it's still there now at 11.45pm, but I think I can leave it until tomorrow... maybe... urgh...
Oh, they do have some good titles and well-known authors. I'd grab a couple of those. I hope you are able to get Kitchen.
I went to grab it this lunchtime. It was there! I got it, closed the library and started walking away, and absent mindedly flicked through the book. And realised it was in German. Bah. Glad I didn't walk around at midnight last night!!So I took What Came Before instead :D
lol, Rus! Really glad you didn't run down there at midnight!I still have to check out first reads this month, Janice.
Janice wrote: "Amazon is offering 2 free "first reads" this month. I got:The Stroke of Winter
The Quarry Girls"
Those both sound good, Janice. I wonder if The Stroke of Winter will fit our haunted building theme? The last paragraph in the blurb makes it sound possible.
"... What evil has been locked away for so many years? The ominous brushstrokes, scratching at the door, and moving shadows begin to pull Tess further and further into the darkness."
I think it will, Kristie. I saw something somewhere that said "haunted houses". I think it was when I was trying to figure out where Wharton was. Apparently, it's a made up town on the shores of Lake Superior. It's a fictional town based on a real town in Wisconsin that is purported to be full of haunted things. She had set another book in that same location, The Haunting of Brynn Wilder. Oh, this might be what I read, "WENDY WEBB's novels are mysteries about long-buried family secrets, set in big, old haunted houses on the Great Lakes."
