Mick Herron's Slough House series is the perfect mix of political intrigue, action, and humour. Here the Slow Horses are up against some Bad Actors indeed. Love it!

Wow this sounds interesting!!
Just finished "Halt's Peril"- 9th in the Ranger's Apprentice series...rated 4!! Would highly recommend the series for folks looking for a read similar to Percy Jackson/Artemis Fowl etc!
The current FBI stories have reminded me of the Bureau's connection with First Nations Peoples, whose treatment around the world is also much in the news. David Grann of 'The New Yorker' wrote Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. I am still furious about this case, as I'm sure most readers would be.

This goes on my TBR! And I love your reviews Patty MDC!
I finished The Thief last night. I won't be reading any more in the series. I'm going that a lot lately - reading only the first book and not wanting to continue a series. I have so many first's on my tbr that it's ridiculous. I will start The WishKeeper today. It's been on my wishilist forever. I don't hold out much hope for these oldies from my tbr, because my tastes have changed.

I felt the same way, Patti (furious).
I just finished The Heart's Invisible Furies and awared it one of my rare 5 stars. I don't normally react this way to character driven stories, but this one had enough of a plot to keep me interested.I will start A Dangerous Collaboration tomorrow.

I think I'm in a bit of a reading slump. I've dnf two books this month. The latest is The WishKeeper. Instead, I'm going to read The Broken Circle: A Memoir of Escaping Afghanistan. I can't turf this one. It's for my road trip, and the saving grace is that it's 250 pgs long.
I'm not sure when I updated last. I'm reading The Neighborhood. It reads like an action movie. I expect to finish it tomorrow. I am also back to Sundial. This one hasn't grabbed me like her previous novel did. I was thinking about giving up, but I've been told I should persist because the ending is good. I'll give it another go. I don't hate it, I'm just not absorbed in the story and it's pretty strange.
Yes, Roz. It is a snake in an animal skull. No snakes in the story yet, but some weird stuff going on.
I read it Gavin but the title only brings back hazy recollections. I think I was just amazed at what went on most of the time. I will be watching to see what you have to say when you are done.

Prosenjit and Cherie, the book, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI, is being made into a movie for 2023 by Martin Scorsese with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.
I think Killers of the Flower Moon will certainly bring these dreadful crimes into the public eye!
Just finished How We Disappear: Novella & Stories. Each of these stories is interesting and unique, with memorable characters in settings all over the world. Tara Lynn Masih is an author worth watching.
4.5★ My review
I recently enjoyed a famous, creepy old story, The Yellow Wallpaper with the Short Story Group. Very 'Twilight Zone' and good fun ... or is it?
4★ My review
I finished A Dangerous Collaboration. I really enjoyed this book - so close to 5 stars, but not quite. Next up is Anxious People. I wonder if I can squeeze it in before the toppler.
Awesome! I'm not sure I'll be able to start tomorrow since I have work & appointments, but Wednesday for sure.
I just finished The Neighborhood
. I thought it was really good, but teetered between 3 and 4 stars. I think it would make a great movie.my The Neighborhood review
I've just read and loved
The Queen of Dirt Island
by one of my favourite authors, Donal Ryan, who captures the sound and cadence of Irish speech better than anyone I can think of. His writing is the best!

I must have read that one wrong. Everyone seems to love it and I didn't like it at all. 🤷🏼♀️ I have a few books like that - super popular, everyone loves them, then I just don't get it.
I'm with you, Kristie. I read the first 30 or 40 pages and couldn't get into it. I will try again in the future, though.
Fact: Not all books will suit all readers. And yet we feel there must be something wrong with us if we don’t like a book that others rave over. We feel we must have missed something. I do exactly the same thing.
Starting 2 new books today -Sea of Memories on audiobook for the toppler
The Night Stalker on Kindle.
I finished The Fallen Stones: Chasing Blue Butterflies, Mayan Secrets, and Happily Ever After in Belize for the August toppler - I enjoyed it and learned a lot about raising butterflies in Belize. Also finished At the Breakfast Table set in Turkiye. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I will start later today The Professor and the Madman: A Tale of Murder, Insanity and the Making of the Oxford English Dictionary, a non-fiction I'm very interested in.
I just read The Thing Around Your Neck, a collection of short stories by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Her people and settings range from the United States to both cities and traditional villages in Nigeria.
4★ My review
I have also read an old, but still hair-raising, short story about four men in a small dinghy on the high seas!
The Open Boat
by Stephen Crane is excellent. I have added links to the story and other info in my review.
5★ My review
I finished The Night Stalker last night and The Good Sister today. That means I start a new slate of books.Who Moved My Goat Cheese? on Kindle and Serpent & Dove on audiobook.
The Partisan has everything: hot war, cold war, spies, assassins, history, and real people who fight, love, and care. It's hard to believe it's Patrick Worrall's debut novel. A great story about a dark time in Europe.
5★ My review
I wish all books written for young people were as appealing as
Blueback
is to readers of any age. Much-awarded Aussie author Tim Winton knows exactly how to talk to kids, without talking down, when describing his beloved coast and its precious underwater world.
5★ My review of Blueback
It's impossible to figure out who all
The Liars
are in Aussie author Petronella McGovern's new small town mystery. From colonial crimes to more recent rapes and disappearances, it seems nobody is safe and anybody could be under suspicion.
3★ My review of The Liars
I finished Who Moved My Goat Cheese? for the group themed read. Tonight, I will start my choice for the monthly challenge, Blackbird Fly.
I often think about boys like Paul, the ones with such strong desires but no idea of what it takes to fulfill them. Willa Cather's short story, Paul's Case, is unforgettable.
