I've seen a movie version, but haven't tackled the book. I almost never watch a movie first, but I did on this one. I think I missed many subtleties because I like to knit or sew while playing a movie in the background.

Thank you! I have a very long TBR list & I grab every free Kindle book that interests me.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments Good luck - I'm trying to be better at not grabbing every freebie!

I haven't read any of your selections and look forward to your thoughts on them. Good luck in 2022.

It's so hard!!! I think I would read them more consistently if I had a better way to keep track of them. I've added a Kindle shelf & started adding and tagging them immediately!

The House in the Cerulean Sea just came available from my library, so I borrowed it! I've been on the list for months, so I guess it will be one of January reads!

I'm terrible about writing reviews. I'm hoping to improve that skill this year!

I use the kindle app on my phone and add to a collection as soon as I've got them

I added Shantaram a while ago after much back and forth. It has some iffy reviews, but those that love it, really love it. I will be interested to see what you think

Good luck and happy reading

My sister & I are reading it together. She lives in Mumbai & her Indian friends recommended it. She messaged me to say that the opening perfectly describes the city. I’m looking forward to diving in!

Lea (leaspot) | 3635 comments You've got some very ambitious books in your year ahead but also some good ones. I've read Shantaram, The House in the Cerulean Sea, Great Expectations and Anna Karenina. Good luck and happy reading!

Shantaram was exhausting. The author is an excellent writer and my sister corroborated locations, smells, general feelings of Mumbai/Bombay. So much happens in this book that it took me several weeks before I felt like reading anything else. Overall, a good read, highly recommend the audio set a 1.4x speed.
