This morning, I finished It Starts with Us by Colleen Hoover. I'm not a romance reader, but this was good.

This is the first work of his that I've read, Dorothy. I think I'd better look around for more!

I agree that parts of it are dark, but I enjoy the actual characters and Joe enough to make up for it. So far, it never feels like blood and gore for the sake of it.
How appropriate that this mystery has two titles: Crossing the Lines, and After She Wrote Him. Aussie author Sulari Gentill is a favourite of mine, and I loved her unique, twisty, psychological invention!
5★ My review of Crossing the Lines / After She Wrote Him
Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time by Dava SobelIt's an esoteric topic but it's a tale with messy human emotions and conflicts that's been engagingly written for the general reading populace.

I had no idea acclaimed English author D.H. Lawrence could write a scary story like The Rocking-Horse Winner. What a surprise!
4★ My review with a link to the story itself
Elvis Presley's unique contribution to music in the middle of the last century (yikes!) is celebrated in author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara's recent addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series for kids.
4★My review of Elvis Presley
I read outside of my comfort zone with The Essential Basho by Matsuo Bashō

Love Lisa Kleypas, the Ravenels, & the Hathaways.
Who doesn't love finding a new favourite book - and a debut, no less. Himself by Irish author Jess Kidd is a terrific blend of warmth and superstition and murder. The lot!
5★ My review of Himself
I finished Buried in a Book
by Lucy Arlington. Here is my 3.79 rounded to 4 stars review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This was a fun cozy mystery filled with quirky characters and literary references.
i started reading • ‘how are you, really?’ by jenna kutcher
as well as digging back into a few of my astrology books with better understanding and a better hand on some of the understandings they come at you with right out of the gate that you don’t quite have a grip on yet when you’re new to it 🙌🏻
• ‘you were born for this’ by chani nicholas
• ‘the element encyclopedia of birthdays’ by theresa cheung
• ‘the astrology bible’ by judy hall
I finished Red Delicious
by Kathleen Tierney. Unfortunately, this urban fantasy was not for me.My 1.31 rounded to 1 star review:

I finished The Lindbergh Nanny
. I thought it was good, but a bit slow in places. I gave the story 3.5 stars, but rounded up for the audio narration, which was very well done. my Lindbergh Nanny review
I also finished Mad Honey
. I loved this one. It was a bit long-winded at times, but overall I thought the story was great. 4.5 stars also rounded up because I didn't have a reason not to and I was just being picky. lolmy Mad Honey review
I'm currently reading a few books. I am reading:
The Lost Ticket - I'm loving this one. So sweet.
The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency - I'm not sure how I feel about this one yet. It is rambling and kind of boring in some places, but really funny in others.
Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun - I'm just starting this one, but I thought the first two in the series were funny and I really enjoyed them.
I finished All The Blood We Share
by Camilla Bruce. My 2.9 rounded to 3 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a historical fiction novel based on a real family of serial killers known at the Bloody Benders. Overall, this story is startling, violent, horrifying, thought provoking, and emotional, with great world-building and characterization. It was a hair-raising and chilling read. So why only 3 stars? The alternating points of view occasionally disrupted the flow. Additionally, the writing was fluent at times and felt stilted and stylistic at other times.
I finished Still Waters
by Sara Driscoll. My 4.6 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this tense, engaging, action-packed, and exciting crime thriller gripped me from the beginning. It has a deeply involved and multi-layered plot and an incredible setting.
I finished White Cloud: A Strange & Surreal Philosophical Novella
by Joy Slaughter. My 2.91 rounded to 3 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this magical realism novella is short, somewhat peculiar, and gripping. It is satirical at times, sad at other times, and occasionally uplifting. However, the writing style felt choppy to me, and I did not like the ending. Despite this, I’m glad I read it. It’s unusual and thought-provoking.
Katherine Mansfield was one of New Zealand's most well-known authors, and I'm a fan. Her short stories are insightful and biting. Poor

You looking for a great book for kids? Little Platypus: A Day in the Life of a Platypus Puggle, by Aussie author Anna Brett with perfect illustrations by Rebeca Pintos, should be at the top of your list.
5★ My review of Little Platypus with several illustrations
I finished Blast Wave
by Leo J. Maloney.My 4.31 rounded to 4 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this novella was fast-paced, tense, and exciting from the beginning. The high stakes made it a page-turner. Maloney is great at building tension and suspense as he delivers exciting outcomes.
I've finished The Forever Witness: How Genetic Genealogy Solved a Cold Case Double Murder
by Edward Humes. My 4.56 rounded to 5 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It is a suspenseful, riveting true crime book that combines great storytelling, cold case investigations, technological advances, and genetic genealogy in a captivating crime read. Additionally, the author does a great job of explaining the science and the controversies in terms that can be easily understood.
I finished reading Witcha Gonna Do
by Avery Flynn. My 3.07 rounded to 3 stars review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This light and humorous paranormal rom-com was entertaining. The main characters are better defined than I initially expected, and the physical world-building was well done. It also tackled some profound themes that added to its energy and depth.
I'm always reading several things but am also on the verge of a major house move which has cut down my reading time and speed. Currently working hard on
and
Hope to find more time once all is settled.
I'm marching stoically through Give Me Back My Legions! by Harry Turtledove on audio. Decent if you have a passing interest in the history of the Roman Empire.
Soul Taken by Patricia BriggsHmm, it's #13 (urban fantasy with a missing person & murders) and it's showing. It was a tedious slog at the beginning and the ending (last 25%) redeemed the story so it's a 3☆, maybe 3.5 ☆, for me.

Overall, this action-packed romantic suspense has great characterization, a little spice, and plenty of action.

I didn't like it as much as I liked the first one--here's my review:

Jon McGregor is a terrific Irish author who was commissioned by the BBC to write these stories, The Reservoir Tapes, to follow his highly acclaimed debut, Reservoir 13. He is just so good.
5★ My review of The Reservoir Tapes
I've also just read Where Shadows Dance, #6 in the Sebastian St. Cyr historical mystery series by C.S. Harris. 1812 England - intrigue, murder, a bit of romance. What's not to love?
5★ My review of Where Shadows Dance
I just started reading
Hidden by Kendra Elliot. Really enjoyed it. However, the Kindle Unlimited came with narration which I could not listen to since the narrator was horrible.
