I think I'm going for The Book of Souls although the next in the Seven Sisters is incredibly tempting! I'm intrigued as to how a book followed you home Renee!!

She put the bag in the back seat of her car after she bought it. I bet that's how. LOLOL!

Mine will be Haunting the Deep by Adriana Mather. The first book, How To Hang A Witch got me caught in its pages and I couldn’t put it down! I could so relate to it! This one involves the history of the Titanic, one of my most favorite history subjects, even before I was a teenager! Anxious to start it! 🐾 😆😁
I had chosen Moon Lake and The Kaiju Preservation Society as my first two 2022 reads; then I saw the #LadiesFirst22 Challenge on Twitter, so first read will be The Last House on Needless Street for #LOHF. My first 2021 read was Persephone Station, which was superb and a great start to the year.
Here's my full list for commencing 2022: rockin'!
1. MOON LAKE (MOUNT TBR)

One of my Motley challenge books (which someone here, maybe Bill? led me to via linking to an article on obscure horror.):
If a carryover from the end of 2021 counts, it will be The Chalmers Race: Ty Cobb, Napoleon Lajoie, and the Controversial 1910 Batting Title That Became a National Obsession. If you mean one I start on Jan 1, it will be Red Barber: The Life and Legacy of a Broadcasting Legend

Oh, Carolien, I'll be reading Arabella in January for another group's January read. It will be a reread, but I love it so it won't be a problem. I'll be reading Cousin Kate maybe in February. I do love Heyer!!However, my first two that I have already set aside with bookmarks are Lincoln for my 1st annual challenge & T is for Trespass for my author of the month.
I'll probably finish The Bad Seed tonight or early tomorrow. It's the only one that I am that close to finishing.
Happy New Year! Look through my Mt. TBR and changed my mind. First book of 2022 will be Bare Knuckle: Bobby Gunn, 71-0 Undefeated. a Dad. a Dream. a Fight Like You've Never Seen.
Hmmm. I started FiveEquations That Changed the World: The Power and Poetry of Mathematics by Michael Guillen but did not finish it yesterday, so I guess I'll try to finish it unless carryovers don't count. Or it may be The Man Who Loved Only Numbers: The Story of Paul Erdős and the Search for Mathematical Truth by Paul Hoffman.

I have 5 on my bedside table but the first book I started was Futureface: A Family Mystery, an Epic Quest, and the Secret to Belonging
by Alex Wagner
by Alex Wagner
I ended up with We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption in an American City which was the book picked for me for January for the "Ugly Once" challenge.
I started The Dovekeepers and then I wanted a quick book, so I started and finished Scraps of Paper. This was the book chosen for me through the PIFM challenge. I'm happy to start the new year with one book finished!
I wanted to re-read The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, a book I loved very much the first time I read it. I just got the third book in the series (Slains, or the Scottish series, as it is variously known) and so I am going to read all three this year. Following closely will be Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel which has been on my tbr pile ever since it first came out. It seems very timely as of late.

I loved Station Eleven. Good choice.

I've started with a non fiction, Celtic Myths by Miranda Jane Green, which I've nearly finished. Next will be a classic vampire story Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu and a modern retelling of episodes of nordic mythology, The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec.
Although I don't think it will help me for the Motley Challenge or the Yearly Challenge, I started Gone to Dust last night. It takes place in Minnesota in January - which is my current reality - and seemed to fit my urge to start a mystery last night (plus it was on my nightstand!).My first commuting audio book is Death of an Altar Boy: The Unsolved Murder of Danny Croteau and the Culture of Abuse in the Catholic Church
.
The one I'm currently reading, Blacktop Wasteland, will be my first book of the year. Started off with another, In Case of Emergency but had to put it down. It needed a bit too much concentration and I just don't have it in me right now.
Probably Shuggie Bain on kindle. I am also reading a print book Winter Solstice but it's going slower.

Oops, it was not my first read. It might be my third, now. Lol

I finished Book of Souls and started The Shadow Sister and decided to start reading two books at once again, with Purgatory being my bathroom book, as I found the first one was better read in bits rather than all in one go.
Finished Blacktop Wasteland and am currently reading The Poet X, The Body Scout and The Collector's Daughter
I just finished Chimes of a Lost Cathedral
and that was so long, that I felt like I really needed something totally different. So I went with non fiction The Demon in the Freezer
. In the never ending saga of COVID, it's useful to remember that there are viruses that killed millions in the past, and still have the potential to decimate the world population as certain rogue nations attempt to create antibiotic resistant strains for nefarious purposes.
I've put "The Land Beyond the Sea" on hold for the moment, as I've been sent another chunk of a book to review. It's called Betrayal. I haven't read anything by David Gilman before, but it's fast-paced and well written.
My first read was a finish. I have been reading A Prayer for Owen Meany for about 2 years. I finally finished it. I really liked the book, but for some reason I kept putting it down.
I may end up grabbing one of the BOTM i actually own to start off 2023, see if it'll help motivate me to read my own books first(probably not.... lol)
I am doing a buddy read as my first book, my buddy chose Curiouser and Curiouser: Steampunk Alice in Wonderland.
The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is my book club book for January so that's the first book TBR in January 2023,The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I'm not totally sure what my first book will be but it might be Five Little Indians by Michelle Good
I picked
The Reading List for my pick in a bookclub for January, so it should be my first- though I may start the year finishing up December books
I just found out I won a copy of A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher in a GR giveaway. Going to try very hard to wait until the first of January to read it. I had to open the envelope to see what MacMillan sent and the doorway on the cover is saying “Please come read….”
I will stay strong, I will….
If I get it for Christmas (and I think so), my first book of 2023 will be The Last Chairlift by John Irving
As long as the library comes through for me 🤞🏼, I’ll start 2023 with Leslie Jordan’s
How Y'all Doing?: Misadventures and Mischief from a Life Well Lived
I'm a mood reader so I can't be certain, but possibly Demon Copperhead. I'm really interested, but so far my December seems to be filling up with holiday-themed books. And Demon Copperhead is a bit thick for me, so I want to start when I know I have a couple clear reading weeks ahead.
