message 101: by Jenni (new)

Jenni Hi everyone! I’m new to the group and to GoodReads and reading in general. Found this group I think just from browsing on the GoodReads search engine.

My absolute favorite genre is historical fiction, I find that those are the types of stories I can most easily get lost in. Sometimes I will Google the actual historical event to get more info on it or to verify the truth of any details. Other than that, I’m not sure - I think I need to try out more genres to refine my taste. I do like reading romance and self help quite a bit.

I don’t particularly have a specific reading # for this year, I just set mine to an arbitrary amount of 10 books on GoodReads, but my goal is just to get thru as many books in my 2022 bookshelf as I can (and spend less time watching TV ☺️ )

Like I mentioned, I want to explore more genres this year so I’m more than happy to do some buddy reads - feel free to add me and send a message any time!

Hi,
I joined Goodreads years ago but haven’t been on here for awhile! I have been looking for authors who write in the style of Victoria Holt…anybody old enough to remember her? I really enjoy downloadable audiobooks but lately haven’t anything interesting from the library. Any suggestions?

message 103: by cami (new)

cami (camigy) Hey! My name is Cami, I'm from Argentina. I mostly read fantasy and romance, but I would love to read different genres, so please give me recommendations <3
Last year was difficult and I didn't read for a couple of months at a time, but I think (hope) this year is gonna be much better :))
My goal for 2022 is 40 books.

message 104: by CloudyClaudy (new)

CloudyClaudy | 4 comments Hi everyone! My name is Claudia, I'm 22, from Venezuela but living in Northern Ireland.
I like reading whatever seems interesting to me at the moment. I've always been scared of joining a reading group because I think most books are not 'boring' but they just didn't arrive to my life at the right time. Because of this, the thought of forcing myself to read a book just because I'm in a group and have a deadline seemed wrong to me.
Of course, I've always wanted to share my thoughts with other people who is also reading the same book as I am, that's why I started looking for groups, and after reading the description and activities you have here, it all felt non-judgemental, relaxed and fun. That's why I'm following my gut and joining.
Joining this group might seem like nothing, but it is actually a big deal for me!

Welcome Claudia! I hope you enjoy the group. I think the challenges with prompts might be more your style. A lot of prompts are more open ended and you pick how many prompts your interested in. I find I can find a prompt that works with a book I'm excited about at the time. And theres no pressure to do challenges if your just here enjoying the discussions thats fine too.

I love this group mostly for the challange page that you can make for your goal. Everyone uses them diffrently. I keep track of my years tbr and what I read on it.

Sure, I remember her since she was publishing books until the 1990s--basically until she died. I loved her books when I was a teen. sent you a friend request but they didn't give me the option of saying how I met you and you wisely don't accept messages from people not your friend.

Hi, everyone! I'm Bobby! I am a 27 ( soon to be 28 year old ) paraplegic male who fell in love with reading in 2019 when I read my first book " This Is me: Loving The Person You Are Today " by Chrissy Metz.

Midnights in Fiction (midnightsinfiction) | 1 comments Hello everyone!
My name is Pranavi, I’m 23 years old. I love to read fantasy and fiction and a good mix of non fiction as well. My 2022 goal is to read more books than last year and this year I intend to read at least 12 books. Hoping to discover new reads and to get back into enjoying quiet time with my books. 😊

message 116: by Al (new)

Al | 1 comments Hi there! Al here from snowy northern Michigan, US. I will read anything that's put in front of me but I usually seek out speculative fiction [sf, fantasy, graphic novel format]. I'm a escapist:) and always looking to decolonize my bookshelf.
I am currently doing the popsugar reading challenge to broaden my horizons...and I found this group. I have been a member of goodreads for several years because I signed up on my kindle, but I haven't really delved into it until now. Looking forward to great discussions and recommendations!

message 117: by Caligo (new)

Caligo (jotiejean) Hello! my name is Jotie, I'm from Indiana, U.S. I found this group by browsing Goodreads for groups I could join. I'm starting my first go at reading 52 books in a year. Not sure if I'll get there but I'm trying my best. I tend to read an assortment of books, from YA to middle grade, non-fiction to mysteries. Just really whatever looks interesting in the moment.

message 118: by Mike (new)

Mike Trigg (mike_trigg) | 3 comments My name is Mike Trigg and I’m based in Northern California, like a few others on this thread. Besides being a big reader, I’m also an author (my debut novel comes out in August - hope you’ll read it!) so I set a reading goal last year of 52 novels to help inform my writing. I’m pleased to say, I hit that goal in 2021 so set the same reading goal for 2022!

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

nice to meet u mike trigg

message 120: by Mike (new)

Mike Trigg (mike_trigg) | 3 comments Thanks. Saw that you have already read 5 books of your 10 book 2022 goal, and it's only January. You need to set a higher goal!

message 121: by mackenzie (new)

mackenzie Hello! My name is Laine and I am based in Toronto, Canada. Although I am currently dodging the lovely Canadian winter in Orlando, Florida until May.

Fiction is by far my favourite to read, and I'll pretty much read anything except for romance! Not sure why, but I don't like too sappy of books. Horror is hit and miss for me, I don't like gore but love the twist and turns.

I find myself going through phases of reading where I will read a book a night for a couple weeks, then put down my kindle and not pick it back up for a month or two. I've set myself the reading goal of 100 books this year, in the hopes that I can keep my reading phase steady!

Super excited to be part of this group!

message 122: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (luvbug) Hi Everyone! I am 67 and have been reading since I was a kid and mom handed me a Nancy Drew book for my 7th birthday. She has been my enabler ever since. I read mostly mysteries but have been using the Goodreads Giveaways to explore other genre/authors.

My goal each year is to read 100 books. Some years I don't make it and others I go way over. The most books I have read since I started keeping track is 154.

message 123: by Mahshida (new)

Mahshida | 3 comments I am Mahshida, you call call me zoon (meaning moonlight)
From Kashmir, I like to read fiction because it helps me to free my imagination, i can wander with dragons or fall in love with dying men, or travel mystical lands.
My reading goal is around 50 books.

message 124: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments Welcome all! :)

message 125: by Giuliana (new)

Giuliana Ayala | 1 comments Hi, everyone! I am Giuliana, and I am from Argentina. I am currently reading Harry Potter 5, Red Queen, and The theory of everything. I was looking for a reading group where I can be inspired to read a bit more ❤️ My goal is to read 20 books this year.

message 126: by JB (new)

JB Hi I’m Julie. I live south of Sydney on the coast.
I read 100 books last year in my first year of retirement and towards the end lost the pleasure of reading ‘at leisure’ so I’m opting for just 50 this year. I’ve already read 8 in January so unless something drastic happens (or a couple of ‘doorstop’ books) I’m well on my way! I’m not too sure how these groups work but I love books, talking about books and discovering ‘must reads’. I love fiction, and anything that expands my knowledge of history or other topics.

message 127: by Tahreem (new)

Tahreem (tahreemreads) | 17 comments Hello all! I'm Tahreem, currently residing in Arkansas, USA, and finally getting back into reading after years of having fallen off the wagon. I'm aiming for 30 books this year which might seem modest but is a giant goal for me, personally lol. Hoping that joining some challenges will help me get there, though! I really enjoy reading fantasy (I usually prefer low fantasy), new adult fiction, literary fiction, sci-fi, and the occasional rom-com thrown in there. I don't think there are genres I dislike but I definitely don't reach for YA, historical fiction, non-fiction, or cop-drama-mysteries as much.

message 128: by Sierra (new)

Sierra O'Neil | 8 comments Hi, I’m Sierra! I’m from Virginia which is located in the United States. Not sure what kind of books I’m into to be honest I’ve never really read a book unless it was for a school assignment, but I graduated high school in May 2020. And here I am two years later deciding to read for fun. Better late then never I guess. When I was in school I read a lot of anime for fun but now that I’m older I’m starting to grow out of the liking of anime genre so I want to explore and read in new genres. I found this group simple by searching “Reading challenges” because reading was never fun for me but I enjoyed it at time and depending on what I was reading. And I figured if I followed a challenge it would make reading more fun and engaging and a nice way to find recommendations for those of the same genre interests. My reading goal is to read 5 books. Seems I’m just getting back into reading books again I wanted to start small, who knows I may love reading again and go over the 5 book goal. So that’s my introduction.

message 129: by Tiffy (new)

Tiffy (_cypress) Hi, I'm Tiff. I'm 34 and live in Oregon in the lovely Willamette Valley. Very rainy here this time of year! I read a little of everything, but I particularly love a good apocalyptic or dystopian read. Other than that, you'll catch me in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres, with a not-so-occasional smutty romance nightcap.

I found the group searching for challenges in the groups - I get overwhelmed trying to decide what to read next, so this looked like the place to go for the option of guided challenges! My goal for the year is focused more on consistency than quantity. I want to read at least one book every month this year, so technically the goal is 12 books, but if I read them all in February, that is still a failure.

Looking forward to getting into things!

message 130: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) Since I'm not sure if I'm done this already or not i'll answer these questions lol.
- Where are you from? I am from Colorado. Born and raised.
- What kinds of books do you like to read? I like to read Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Young Adult, anything with a fantasy/paranormal/sci fi basis, anything else bores me.
- How did you find our group? Browsing and cleaning up inactive groups I've previously joined
- What's your reading goal? for the goodreads challenge I have set it at 50. I used to be able to read more, but 50 seems reasonable.

My reading interests vary widely, but I am currently focusing on books by authors who fit this group's Diversity in Reading challenge description. message 140: by Karen M (last edited Feb 21, 2022 02:38PM) (new)

Karen M | 13 comments Hello! My name is Karen and I'm from New Jersey. I am an eclectic reader. Mysteries and thrillers are probably my favorites but I'll read just about any genre. Last year I surprised myself by reading 156 books which is 56 more than my goal of 100 (yes I'm retired). This year's goal is still 100. I belong to a FTF BC and we currently are down to 7 members and are about to lose one who is relocating but she would like us to Zoom her, LOL. We have been meeting in person this past year. I've noticed a number of groups to which I belong have not had much activity so I went looking for an active group to join.

message 141: by [deleted user] (new)

hello, my name is Joany. I love almost any and every genre, guess it depends on if I can get into what I'm reading at the time. last year was slow for me, I read 20 books I believe, but had to redo my Goodreads account (which is this one) because I had lost my login info.

This year I am upping the number to 50 books, maybe more...hopefully!

My 3 most favorite in no particular order of novels are, Thriller/Crime, horror, and diverse novels of today. My reading interests vary, and can change back and forth.

hope to talk to you all soon!
