message 51: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 17 comments Hi all! I'm Rebecca from Australia. I read a lot of urban fantasy and paranormal books. I will not read much (or any) thriller and horror.

My goal from 2022 is 100. Last year I read an absurd 232 books, but certainly don't expect that again.

message 52: by Lee (new)

Lee | 1 comments Hey there people!

I'm Lilly, from Germany. I started 7th grade in July, and turned 11 in September.

I love fantasy and sci-fi, but any fiction is welcome really. Except romance. My favorites are Percy Jackson,
Michael Vey,
The Valley,
The Supernaturalist,
The Infernal Devices,
Alex Hunter and
Anne of Green Gables

My goal for 2022 is around 200 books, as I managed to read 178 last year. This is my first time doing this challenge, but I have been keeping track of my books anyway.

message 53: by Sara (new)

Sara Borkowski | 9 comments Hi everyone! My name is Sara and I am from Vermont. I rediscovered my love for reading back when Covid began and our schools went remote. I needed a way to escape. This year, I set my goal for 22 books. I beat that last year, however, I chose to keep my goal at a conservative number so that I am not worrying about getting the books read to meet the challenge but rather to enjoy them along the way. I enjoy a variety of book genres. Currently, my favorite author is Fredrik Bachman. I tend to look for books similar to his style of writing.

message 54: by kiko ★ (new)

kiko ★ | 4 comments Hi, everyone! My name is Maya and I live in France.I read all types of books, including fantasy, contemporary, romance, thrillers, LGTB+…etc. I only got into reading a year ago, so I haven’t read many books but this year I want to read 50 books, and if I can read 100, even better!

Some of my favourite books are:

- ,,To all the boys I loved before” by Jenny Han
-,, Anne of Green Gables” by Lucy M. Montgomery
-,,One of us is lying “ by Karen M. McManus.
-,,More happy than not” by Adam Silvera
-,, Eleanor & Park” by Rainbow Rowell
- ,, Skin of the sea” by Natasha Bowen
- ,, The perks of being a wallflower “ by Stephen Chbosky

Feel free to comment or ask for recommendations!^^

Melissa (crafteme) | 201 comments Hi, My name is Melissa and I live in New Jersey.

I'm very eclectic in my reading. I bounce all over the place, but I guess my go-to is mystery/thriller.

This year I have pledged 30 books.

I stumbled across your group while looking to answer the question -- What is the greatest number of books anyone has ever pledged and completed? I'm just curious. I didn't find my answer but I did find this group that looks like a bunch of fun!

I look forward to getting to know everyone -- now to go explore some more!

Melissa

Bre | 2 comments Hi, I’m Bree,
Sort of new here, for sure my first reading challenge group 🤗
I found good reads…maybe a year or so ago, I was intimidated so I ran away….I’m back now 😬
My goal is 6 books this year, I enjoy reading many types of books. Outside of books on personal growth, I enjoy a good mystery.
I’m currently located in North Carolina
Yay!! I said something 🙃

message 59: by Isabella (new)

Isabella Hi, I'm Isabella from Austria. Just recently discovered goodreads and added my books from 2021. I am currently reading books in English and German, but maybe will add also some very easy ones in Norwegian/Danish/Swedish for learning purposes. It's amazing and inspiring to see how many books people actually read (or at least plan to read)! For this year I hope to move from excessive binge watching to excessive reading :D

message 61: by Orion (new)

Orion | 23 comments Hello! My name is Clariza and I am from Mexico! I found this group 'cause I was looking for challenges to do this year and really liked the whole idea of this group!

I didn't read much last year, and I've realized I don't really know myself as a reader, so I'm challenging myself this year in hopes to discover more about myself.

Good luck to everyone with their challenges!

message 62: by Yamini (new)

Yamini | 1 comments Hello everyone. I am Yamini from India. Firstly I hope everyone is safe and healthy as the corona is rising again. I joined this group because I felt like I was loosing touch with reading and giving myself a challenge will help me read more.

message 63: by Aniya (new)

Aniya (aniya89) Hello, my name is Ani, 32, from Germany. My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, romance and non-fiction.
Last year I managed to read 81 books. My current goal is 50 but I hope to read more. :)
If some of you are interested in chatting or buddy reads don't hesitate to get in touch with me. I'm always happy to meet new like-minded people, but I also feel like it's rather hard to get into conversations on goodreads.

message 64: by Robert Max (new)

Robert Max Steenkist (robertmax) ¡Buenos días! Goood morning! Guten Morgen! Gooien Morgen! I’m Robert Max from Bogotá. Love reading in many languages and Bookreads is a good source of recommendations.

Usually I’m not very active in reading groups, but I have faith in participating in this as my yearly reading rhythm usually gets too many up’s and downs due to (I think) lack of pairing and comparing. I hope that sharing a positive pressure like this challenge can make us all accomplish our goals, and specially have a lot of fun and emotions in our ways.

Salud, and memorable pages to all.

message 65: by Maggie_qwerty (last edited Jan 07, 2022 03:17PM) (new)

Maggie_qwerty (emilygoragoesnorth) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Emily from Norway (at least now). 45 and ticking. I love reading, always have, it has probably saved my life and not once, at some point.

I usually do not participate in groups, as I find that activity dies out and leaves me disappointed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Just like Aniya mentioned before me.
But I really enjoy the yearly challenges! Competitive freak in me. So I'm thankful and glad to be here, and hopefully get to know you guys better! Maybe we'll stick together for a while as a reading club here :D
This year I pledged 150 books, but I already see it's totally lost its meaning, since I got a big, big pile of graphic novels for Christmas, and they read f.a.s.t. :D So I'm sort of half way through already (-‸ლ)...
I read paper editions, listen to audiobooks, and use Kindle app for graphic novels. Mostly at the same time :D I read in English, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Russian and Polish. In this very order.

I don't have favourite books, there are simply too many of them out there. I don't even have a favourite genre... Although my least favourite would probably be romance in Danielle Steel style. Hard pass.

When it comes to the favourite authors - let's see, this is also a messy salad:
Gabor Maté, Kato Lomb (what a discovery this was!) Catherine Steadman, Harriet Lerner, Oyinkan Braithwaite, Christopher Moore, Gulraiz Sharif, Spider Robinson, Neil Gaiman, Alan Ayckbourn, Noel Coward, Roxane Gay, Oliver Sacks, Julian Barnes, Yann Martel (gawd I wish he wrote more!), Alexander Masters (who knows this one?), Agota Kristof, Colson Whitehead, Kevin Wilson, Edward St Aubyn, Jonathan Carroll... these will be my favourite writers 0f 2021.
Graphic novel writers: Neil Gaiman, Garth Ennis, Joe Sacco, Sergio Toppi, Marjorie M. Liu, John Layman...

I'm so looking forward to the priviledge of following your progress, guys!

I don't think you have to worry about this group dying its been around awhile and looks like as long as goodreads site is around it'll be here. :)

message 67: by GordoTerronillo (new)

GordoTerronillo | 9 comments Hello, new here!
I used to read so much in the past… Everything, anything! But then… I guess life just happened and I found every excuse not to do so and I just kind of stopped.
I read maybe a couple of books total a year and I’m here to change it. I bought my first ever Kindle and I’m excited for it (and the amount of space I’m saving in the house too lol) so bring it on!

Hope to meet lots of people on these weird days and find some more interesting titles along the way.
Happy reading, everyone! 😊📚

message 68: by Danielle (new)

Danielle N | 1 comments Hi I am Danielle from NY, USA. I am new to goodreads and the group and am super excited to do a challenge. I was an avid reader basically until about 5 years ago when I started my profession. I am now focusing on getting back to me. I'm starting with a modest goal of 12 in 2022 because sadly it might have been 12 total since 2016. Thanks everyone!

lotus flower Hey, I’m Gwen(Gwendolyn). I’m from California, US. I love reading! My favorite genres are fantasy, romance, mystery, adventure, mythology, and science fiction.

message 73: by Laura Raine (new)

Laura Raine Hi All!
I’m Laura and I live in Ontario, Canada.
I’ve had goodreads on my phone for awhile but haven’t managed to stick to keeping it updated but I have high hopes for 2022!
I’m a fairly avid reader and am currently enrolled in the Advanced Creative Writing Diploma program with the University of Cambridge. Thanks to this course I am introduced to many books that I would never have picked up so am forever grateful. (Luckenbooth is on this list!)
For 2022 I’ve set my goal to just under 50. I’d like to get it higher but no pressure 😉

message 75: by Taly (new)

Taly (talywog) | 1 comments Hello fellow readers! My name is Taly, I am 18 years old and from California. I have been a bookworm since I was a child, and recently got a job working at my university's library, so I am excited to continue my literary journey. I am a history/art major, and am currently tailoring a great deal of my reading towards those subjects. I do, however, love a good YA read and the classics. I have gotten more picky over the years with my reading material as I no longer have ample time to read as much as I'd like, but I am hoping to develop a strong list of TBR's. My goal for 2022 is 12 books, as I am looking for quality over quantity, and really want to surpass my goal :) I am very excited to meet you all and talk about books!

message 76: by Blagica , Challenges (new)

Blagica | 12941 comments Hi Taly welcome so happy to have you! I think 12 books is more then enough to enjoy and completely agree that it is not quantity that matters but quality. We have so much to do around here let us know if you need anything

message 77: by Fer (new)

Fer Hey! I'm Fernanda, 25 years old from Brazil! I'm an avid reader, but working 12 hours/day on a highly stressfull position made me dart away from books. Getting back on tracks this year. I'm starting with a modest goal, 30 books. Let's see how it goes. I mostly read romance and thrillers, but I really do like dystopias and fantasy/sci-fi. Nice to meet all of you!

message 80: by Joseph (new)

Joseph Rex (josephrexme) | 1 comments Hi, I’m Joseph from Milwaukee, WI. I’ve never read one book in a week but I started this year reading Atomic habits between Jan 2 and Jan 8th. I’m 25% into my second book for the year and it’s already seeming like my best year with books so far.

I hope to build connections here that’ll help me nurture this new habit. My reading streak started with The midnight library in December 2021. I’d always just read non fiction books every once in a while but that one fictional book sparked a different kind of passion that led me to never want to go a day without reading a book.

Looking forward to knowing you all better

message 81: by Vidya (new)

Vidya (vidzz22) Hi everyone!
I am Vidya from India. I am so excited to join this group and would like to read with all of you :)
I am a great fan of page-turning thrillers and books on science
The reading goal for 2022 is to read 40 books!

Hoping to have a great year and Good luck to everyone!

message 82: by Jack (new)

Jack | 1 comments Hi everyone!

Jack from the UK here. I started as a scientist, then lawyer and now I work in sustainability! For non-fiction books I enjoy science, psychology and environment-related books.

I do a lot of competitive quizzing so I'm hoping to improve my history knowledge this year and pick up a few relevant books.

For fiction, I'm working my way through the classics! I've finished Lord of the Rings and Animal Farm in 2022 so far and had a blast. Traditionally I go for horror and fantasy though, so I'll certainly be shelving a few of those.

My target is 20 books, a bit conservative but sometimes work and life gets in the way and I only end up reading emails and work documents, leaving me too tired for leisure reading. I'm hoping to change that this year by starting small and aiming to surpass it. I've recently started writing reviews as well and would welcome any reads and comments :)

Best of luck everyone for the new year!

Michelle Françoise | 1 comments Hi everyone!

My name is Michelle, i’m from California USA, and i’m 23 years old!

I really enjoy reading thriller, romance, horror/murder mysteries, social justice, pretty much anything really. But the two genres that take the cake are either romance or thriller books.

I found this group just by scrolling through goodreads and wanting to find more people who enjoy reading and are willing to recommend books to read- I love when people recommend me their favorite books.

My reading goal is to read at least 3 books every month! I’m always open to recommendations please, no matter the genre :)

Feel free to add me as a friend on here!

Moon The Book Owl (moonthebookowl) | 7 comments Hi! My name is Lauren and I am 18 years old from Australia. I read 38 books in 2019 and fell into a slump shortly after. Since then I have been reading less and less books. Last year I read 4 and left two in my currently reading early in the year and they are still there… This year, I am hoping to break out of the slump and I hope you guys can help me.

Some of my favourite books are:
- The Grishaverse by Leigh Bardugo
- The Riordanverse
- The Cruel Prince series
- The Raven Cycle series

Song | 6 comments Hi! I go by the name Risa online. I was looking for some reading challenges out of curiosity. I've got my eye on plenty of children's literature and I'm looking forward to reading old favourites this year. I had been in a reading slump for a few years until I began reading to our school kids in the past few months. This has got me back into gear and I'm quite excited about reading again.

I'm not sure that I am going to be very active on here. But I am pleased to be a part of this group.
