Do you know if it's an American or British (or other) setting? Maybe you have some hints from the post office colours? (Which country are you based in?).
Anything about the market in particular? An outdoor, farmer's market setting, or indoor? Just fruit and vegetables, or..?
Do you know the approximate ages of the kids? Old enough to wander off on their own, or toddler/hand-holding age? (Can they see over the counter tops?)
And about the art style - how would you describe it? Richly detailed, or cartoony? Watercolours or bright and bold? Realistic faces? (Can you remember what the kids wore? Old fashioned dress on the little girl, maybe?). Any other details at the beach? Did they have pails and shovels or bathing suits / swimming costumes?

This was an American book. The children were school-aged. I don't really remember anything about the post office except that there was an envelope I believe they dropped off for mailing. The market was indoors like a grocery store. They talked about some of the things you find at a market (like fruits and vegetables). I'm pretty sure it showed money or coins and said they were needed to buy groceries. For the beach section the kids collected items from a tide pool. I believe the premise of the book was focused on the items used or acquired at each stop on their day trip and it was written in first person (something like "Here we are at the beach, we used our shovel and pail and collected seaweed, stones and seashells.").
The images were very cartoon-y with bright colors and bold outlines. What I remember of the style reminds me of the Stanley book series by William Bee or the Jessie books by Harriet Ziefert. Hope this helps!!
