Checking in!!! Hello everyone!! Speaking of snow, British Columbia got hammered. We don't get much snow on the coast but the interior does but this time, It's white out. We even had a white Christmas.

message 6: by Melindam (new)

Melindam Sounds lovely. We just had some slight snow powder on the 2nd day of Xmas, but even that was more than what I expected, so I am not complaining. And it was gone in a few hours, anyway. :)

Ta || bookishbluehead (bookishbluehead) | 83 comments Hi everyone, checking in.

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1147 comments Hi all! Checking in from Pennsylvania. Luckily we have had warmer temperatures the past few days. Otherwise we would be snowed in! It’s been raining a lot since Christmas Day!

message 12: by Kat (new)

Kat (bookworm2017) | 1448 comments Hello. Checking in from Glasgow in Scotland. Have people picked their books for snow?

message 13: by Letty (last edited Dec 31, 2021 02:47PM) (new)

Letty | 253 comments Hello, sorry I am so late.

I am from Texas and it is cold early morning and hot the rest of the day. Most days we still have our air conditioner on.

Rosina Kat wrote: "Hello. Checking in from Glasgow in Scotland. Have people picked their books for snow?"

My first read will be The Chicken Sisters by K.J. Dell'Antonia ...

Gosh that sounds so good....I snagged it on Kindle ...on sale

message 18: by Kat (new)

Kat (bookworm2017) | 1448 comments Mine is If Only by Angela Marsons it has snow mentioned in the story

message 19: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1147 comments Mine is Cold Wind (Alaska Wild, #2) by Paige Shelton

I think there is snow on the cover. Also takes place in Alaska be the word snow is used twice on the first page (and then other times later I’m sure).

Melindam Happy New Year!

Just finished a lovely, heartwarming book, "Once Upon a Wardrobe" by Patti Callahan.

Will post it to the other thread a bit later.

i recently bought it on Kindle as I think my library only has one copy and it was a 6 month wait....glad to hear it was good....did you read her other book Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan

message 26: by Melindam (new)

Melindam Not yet, but I will, because I liked the Wardrobe book so much. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was pretty good.

Nanci | 256 comments Carrie, nice to hear that you're liking the book! Mine is at the library, which of course has been closed for the holidays. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Excited to start it!
Great job to all our teammates who have already finished their books!

message 32: by Melindam (new)

Melindam I signed up with 1 book/week. I am in a kind of pre-UNO slump. :D

I keep checking all the books I should/could read and I go like.... "ah, but this could work for a V or colour cover" let's keep it for February. :D

Do we have words every month?

message 34: by Melindam (new)

Melindam It's hands if UNO cards - the numbers standing in for letters, among other options. :)

message 35: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments UNO is fun! I'm not hoarding books. I can always find new ones that I have to read. I am slowing down a bit to focus on other things first.

I'm so sad. I wanted a feel-good book to start the year, but the one I picked really let me down. So bad. Silver Thaw. So now I'll read another snowy book and hope for better with a thriller.

message 36: by Melindam (new)

Melindam I am sorry Stacey. Here's to hoping your next one will be much better.

message 37: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 256 comments Anyone find a book they really like for our next round, Fireplace?

Ta || bookishbluehead (bookishbluehead) | 83 comments I want to read The Toll (Arc of a Scythe, #3) by Neal Shusterman this weekend and a fireplace is mentioned, so I‘m going to use that. :)

message 39: by Cat (new)

Cat (cat_uk) | 112 comments Turned in my snow book. Used a book about cocaine and narco-trafficking!

No idea re fireplace....

message 40: by Preeti (new)

Preeti (preetisunaina) Both the books I am reading at present have "fireplace" in them -
Breakup (Kate Shugak #7) by Dana Stabenow
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter #6) by J.K. Rowling

message 41: by Stacey (new)

Stacey | 178 comments I really enjoyed Christmas Every Day, which is a definitely a feel good book. It's not as Christmassy as it sounds and has a fantastic book club in it with fun characters. It mentions fireplace at least twice.

I also finished Chill Factor. Older and not my favorite thriller but definitely interesting and worth reading. Two of the characters are stuck in a cabin with only a fireplace for warmth.

message 42: by Kat (new)

Kat (bookworm2017) | 1448 comments I’m using Laura north - Safe at home - for fireplace it mentions it in the story

message 43: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 256 comments Some good suggestions! Thanks! I'm still looking...hoping they'll be a mention in one of my many books that I have to read. I'll let you know. Almost done with my "snow" book.

I’ve used my kindle app and looked through a few of my books to find the words needed. There’s a search box at the top.

I am also reading a Harry Potter book for fireplace, but I am reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling

message 46: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 256 comments I am going to read Still Life with Bread Crumbs. it has this sentence on page 152, "He poked the logs in the fireplace."
I need to read this for another challenge and didn't expect it to have "fireplace" in it, but I got lucky! It's actually in it in 3 different places.

message 47: by Rosina (new)

Rosina I found fireplace in an ARC i need to read but it doesnt have page numbers.

Does anyone know how i can convert kindle location to pages? I am not sure if it is over 300 pages.

message 48: by Rosina (new)

Rosina I also did a kindle search and I have 4 books that had fireplace and 3 I had already read in the last few weeks...

2 are KU if anyone is still looking....they were quick good reads...one mystery and one romance 1880's

Murder in Her Stocking (A Granny Reid Mystery, #1) by G.A. McKevett and Miss Amelia's Mistletoe Marquess by Jenni Fletcher

the other one is The Chicken Sisters by K.J. Dell'Antonia

You divide the pages by 100 and x percent so for example you find how many pages ur book has. So 293 divide 100 x 15%
