Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments I’m writing this with the assumption, that I’m not the only one wishing to carry on into 2022.

Because I’m on a book-buying pause at the start of 2022, I’m going to suggest 3 options I already have to hand, and will be reading very, very soon. They are:

Daniela Krien: Love in Five Acts/Die Liebe im Ernstfall
Sten Nadolny: The Discovery of Slowness/Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit
Juli Zeh: New Year/Neujahr

Which would you like to read as a group?

kubelot | 109 comments Really looking forward for next year.

Just checked, all the books are available in my local library, so I'm fine with all the choices.

Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit although is most tempting for me :)

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments It would make a great winter read (for those of us in the northern hemisphere).

Erin | 64 comments I would love to read Die Entdeckung der Langsamkeit! I already own it and was planning on it for a winter read. But even more fun togeether!

Penelope | 167 comments Love in Five Acts by Daniela Krien would be my choice.
I am not on a book buying pause but need to read those I own and this is the one.

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments So we have a draw 2:2 Krien:Nadolny.

Seeing as I will be reading both anyway, I’m not going to cast a deciding vote. I’m happy to buddy read both with whoever wishes to join in.

So, I suggest the following:

Let’s discuss Krien in January and Nadolny in February. (Ladies first, because I still believe in chivalry … and I think Nadolny will be a little more challenging.) But I’ll set up both topics, so you can pitch in whenever you’re ready.

Annix I‘ll take part in the Entdeckung der Langsamkeit, the other two I‘ve read. I liked both, though they dealt with some rough stuff. I wouldn‘t want to re-read Neujahr, that story still haunts me.

Annix Also, thank you for continuing the group! 💚

I’m reading it now, Annix, and can see that it’s leading to a place of darkness …

Sounds like a plan, count me in for both titles.

I think I may have o.d.'ed on christmas spirit this season, a place of darkness is soooo tempting... Maybe i'll join you for all the three novels?

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments So I’ve set up three threads for Q1 …. Join in whichever you like, whenever you like. What a way to start 2022. I love it!

message 13: by Marilyn (new)

Marilyn Rietveld | 9 comments I'll take part in 'Die Liebe im Ernstfall'. I am new here, I suppose we discuss the books in this group?

Lizzy Siddal (Lizzy’s Literary Life) | 302 comments Welcome Marilyn.

There’s a separate thread for each of the group choices.

Daniela Krien’s is here.
