PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Zeba Blay's Carefree Black Girls: A Celebration of Black Women in Popular Culture is a passionate protest, full of examples, about the global culture of "colorism" and how the darkness of your skin decides your worth and opportunities. She knows her stuff!

Colin Baldwin Hi all
Not sure if reviews of 'kiddie's books' are the norm here, but I really need to share this one with you - 'Colin the Cow-boy' - yes, it's sentimental!

Colin the Cow-boy by Enid Blyton

My review says it all:

Thanks again, Brenda. Immediately after I uploaded it, I saw you had a review of a 'young person's book' just before me!!! The stars had aligned. CB

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Best-selling British author, Patrick Gale‘s retelling of Charles Causley’s life in Mother's Boy brings, with richly imagined detail and gorgeous prose, this intensely private man to vivid life. Utterly superb.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments A freebie short story by a favourite author is always welcome, especially when it’s as clever and gripping as The Shout by Susan Wilkins.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments I thought that the second book in Simon R. Green's Gideon Sable series, A Matter of Death and Life was a tiny bit formulaic, but still very entertaining.

Carolyn | 9836 comments I enjoyed this cosy type mystery with interesting characters, The Shadow of Memory (Kate Hamilton Mysteries, #4) by Connie Berry The Shadow of Memory by Connie Berry. However, although it worked well as a stand alone, it is fourth in the series so now I really want to read the first three.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Apeirogon, by award-winning Irish writer Colum McCann, is the remarkable and moving true story of two fathers, former enemies, working for peace. One is Israeli, one Palestinian. Both lost young daughters in the conflict. It is unbelievably beautifully done.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Turns out it doesn't have to be a Cormac Reilly book for Aussie author Dervla McTiernan to produce an intriguing page-turner. The Murder Rule gets 5★s from me.
