Krystal (krystallee6363) | 2304 comments Bit of stress over here as I'm being evicted from my apartment, but silver lining is its a dump that I'm keen to get out of XD

Anyhoo, the point is I've had to pack all my books into boxes and MAN, what a job! I'm trying to cull as I go but it's hard on my heart haha. On the plus side, I've been discovering books I'd forgotten about, which is fun. And I'm trying to give the excess away, so that always feels good for the soul.

Thanks Sarah. I googled and it seemed that many associations had already celebrated WBD on March 4th even tho the official annuversary date is April 23rd. Amazon is silent so far so fingers crossed they will do their thing later in the month on the right date.

Sorry to hear you have the stress of being evicted Krystal, and I hope you have somewhere much nicer to go. Good luck!! And I understand completely about your books! It's a heartbreaking job ;)

As Phrynne said Trish :) Those who don't have to travel by public transport would probably be alright, but those of us who do would still be wary - I know I am :) But don't worry - it'll happen eventually!!!

How is your husband after his procedure today Marianne?

message 221: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Thanks for all the good wishes: -oscopies are unpleasant, but not as unpleasant as the prep. No unexpected results, so hopefully those issues can now step aside and he can get on with recovering from his heart surgery.

Happy Easter, everyone!

I have my second booster booked for next week. So far I have had no reactions from any Covid shots. Hope this next one isn't a change to that pattern!

Colin Baldwin Ah, shucks. Lovely Easter well-wishes from everyone. That’s nice. Same well-wishes from Tassie.
The reactions to boosters seem very random - know a few people that have been quite crook - but they soldier on. I’ve been lucky so far.
All the best to everyone. Happy Easter break and happy reading.

Diana (secondhandrose) | 73 comments A couple of cool ‘book moments’ today.
This morning I had a half hour conversation with the Director of the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature in Canberra. They have asked people to advocate on their behalf and I contacted my federal MP who now wishes to speak with me about it. Belle, the director and I went over some points I can raise in discussion with my MP.
Then I was reading a book recommended to me by Tracey of Carpe Librum and on page 75, the author mentioned the marine specialists he needed to talk to. One was my good friend, Jenn who lives in Washington DC and works in the Office of Protected Resources for the US National Marine Fisheries Service. I stayed with Jenn on my last trip to the States.
The book is Floating Gold: The Search for Ambergris, The Most Elusive Substance in the Natural World
Very cool book day!

That sounds like such an awesome day Diana!

I love that you've gone ahead and contacted your local MP, I've wanted to play a more active role in local politics for years and I guess it never occurred to me that it might be as easy as just reaching out and starting a conversation.

I’ve had great success contacting local MPs. At my last job I contacted the local MP Rob Mitchell and asked for assistance for one of our students. She had political aspirations so Rob arranged for her to meet with Tania Plibersek for a discussion. This time around I’ll be talking with my local member, Ged Kearney.
