I just finished
. I really enjoyed this one - went by very fast, hard for me to put down, all that. Perhaps the author's style needs to be scarier, to get the full effect.
I only want to mention this ebook because one of the allegedly true stories featured in there caught my special attention. In the story/report, some young people ventured onto a cemetary in order to record EVP (inspired by ghosthunting shows). They didn't record anything, but stumbled upon a weird creature described as being between three and four feet tall, brightly furred and with the ability to turn its head like an owl. It also was reportedly digging around in the cemetary soil.
The creature described bears a strinking resemblance with a lesser-known cryptid known as Gravedigger, as described by Barton M. Nunnelly in his book The Inhumanoids:

The witness story didn't mention the monicker "Gravedigger" at all. They were possibly completely unaware a sighting history of such things exists. The sighting allegedly happened aroudn 2007 or 2018 in New Jersey.
I just finished A Master of Djinn (steampunk/urban fantasy) 4/5 stars! Next I will read the short prequel stuff.
Marina wrote: "I finished Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt yesterday. It was brilliant and terrifying. It's a top 10 favourite read of all time for me."I liked that one so much more than HEX! I'm glad you enjoyed it too, Marina.

SG was a reread for me. I'm hoping to finally get around to finishing the other two books in the trilogy.
Sonya wrote: "Ramses the Damned: the Reign of Osiris 5*"I love this series! I wonder if they'll ever adapt for TV or movies.
Have you read The Wolf Gift?
Thanks for the head's up, Alan! I finished J.H. Moncrieff's The Restoration around 2 AM last night. I highly recommend!
Five Decembers
Not horror, but very dark wartime noir. Just won the Edgar Award. Absolutely fantastic.

ended up being kind of a disappointing read for me."
Aww, that's a bummer.
I finished up
by T. Kingfisher. LOVED IT! It's based on Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher, but has it's own twists and turns. One word: Hyphae
*shiver*
just started one of the reads for this month! i had some arcs to finish up first, but now that i've finished those, i'm super hyped to get into this story.

I just finished THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD, by Max Ehrlich. It's fantastic the way that book is plotted and resolved. With excellent suspense.
@Alan good to hear another positive review for Ronald Malfi. I recently picked up his latest, Come With Me, and thought it was stellar, so I look forward to his other backlist titles.

I have never read anything close to a bad book by Malfi. My least favorite of his I would still rate 7.5-8/10.

To the Devil, a Cryptid by Hunter Shea
The legendary Goat Man has been summoned... Hunter Shea for me is King of the Cryptids and this is a fine example of his storytelling.
