I just finished Echo Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt .
Great idea, but I feel could have been shortened to lessen the repetition of certain elements. Not sure if this is due to the translation though...

Cunning Folk by Adam Nevill

The Dead Hours of Night

I liked these stories well enough, but I find that most of them have already faded from my memory only days after reading them.

I think what I enjoyed about that collection was the voice. Tuttle doesn't do loud or strident, which isn't to say she doesn't occasionally use strong imagery. But, yes, a couple of stories stick with me, but I'd have to review them to recall details of most of them.

Thomas | 31 comments I am currently reading Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #10) by Agatha Christie .

Was doing it to eventually watch the movie of it before going to see the new Poirot movie that just came out. Alas, life got in the way and I went to see the movie before finishing the book and getting to that movie's book. Got a good 100 phs left to read, its been an interesting read so far and vastly different from the writing style I normally read.

My next book is Hannibal (Hannibal Lecter, #3) by Thomas Harris

WHat I've already finished

Middle Passage by Charles R. Johnson The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments February has been "Short Month, Long Book" mini challenge. I have been reading books on my TBR list that are at least 500+ pages. So far I have read:
The Terror by Dan Simmons 769 pgs
Elantris (Elantris, #1) by Brandon Sanderson 622 pgs
Abandon by Blake Crouch 521 pgs
Deep Silence (Joe Ledger #10) by Jonathan Maberry 496 pgs (Close enough for me!)
The Blackstone Chronicles by John Saul 527 pgs

I'm working on Battle Royale by Koushun Takami .
I'm not sure what will be after that. I think I can squeeze in one more 500+ book this month.

Christopher Conlon (goodreadscomchristopherconlon) | 530 comments Double Jeopardy by Martin M. Goldsmith
The first novel by Martin M. Goldsmith, author of the novel and film noir classic Detour. Somewhat predictable but a fun story that plays exactly like a film noir of the 1930s or ‘40s—and a pretty good one at that.

Char | 17457 comments I am currently reading Echo by Thomas Olde Heuvelt . I am one of the few that thought Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt was just okay. I am liking ECHO a lot more than I did that one. I'm about halfway through right now.

I'm also starting Diabolica Americana by Keith Anthony Baird

i thought this book was a lot of fun. i got strong vibes of good omens, but if good omens was written for kids and horror, ha ha.

Catherine Cavendish | 314 comments Ravens of Yellowstone by Russell James Ravens of Yellowstone (Kathy West National Park Adventure #3) by Russell James This is the latest in the author's adventure series featuring National Park Service ranger, Kathy West and features gigantic ravens you really wouldn't want to meet on a casual stroll through Yellowstone Park. Of course, with Russell James at the helm, there's a lot more to it than that. This is a quick, enjoyable read. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gallant by V.E. Schwab

My five star review:
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Gothic horror with fantastical elements. Highly recommend.

message 136: by [deleted user] (new)

The last work of fiction I finished was The Dinner by Dutch author Herman Koch. A very classy and literary ambitious thriller, it reminded me a bit of Polanski's Carnage.

Catherine Cavendish | 314 comments Oracle of Ghosts: A supernatural suspense thriller by J.H. Moncrieff Oracle of Ghosts A supernatural suspense thriller by J.H. Moncrieff
Book 7 of the author's Ghost Writers series, this is more of a fantasy thriller and continues the evolving story of Kate and Jackson as the two of them battle dark forces from the world of ancient gods and goddesses. Great story with some surprising twists and turns.

No Exit by Taylor Adams

Not much horror for me in 2022 so far, only bizarro fiction, some Lovecraft classics and non-supernatural thrillers. This one is from the latter category and an excellent read.

message 139: by Char (new)

Char | 17457 comments Non horror is fine too, Cuniculus.

I finished listening to The Seven: The Labyrinth, Book 1 and it was a ton of fun.

I also finished reading Echo which was a bit too long, but otherwise genuinely scary.

Michael McDowell is so good.

I finished Dissonant Harmonies. It contained two novellas, by two authors, each inspired by a playlist or "mix tape" provided by the other. I thought it was an intriguing premise, and in fact, both authors delivered the goods.
