That’s great. Dom was hoping to start no sooner than next week.

Lol, it's a chunky book!
I started and finished the first part. I stopped on page 45 at Part 2, 2005.Sometimes don’t you hate getting into the very beginning of a book? All the bla bla background that leads up to where you are hoping the real story, with the characters you know (if it is in a series) will take off? What a horrible bunch of guys! Interesting that Dr. Cage was the Battery Plant Doctor.
L'm at chapter 3 and can't read this book anymore. The N word is being thrown around too much for my taste. If the trilogy is about race, I feel that it's going to pissed me off way too much.
Are you in chapter 3 in Part 2, Dom? I suspect that race IS what the trilogy will be about, but the rest of chapter 4 and 5 is more about Tom Cage too.
Cherie wrote: "Are you in chapter 3 in Part 2, Dom? I suspect that race IS what the trilogy will be about, but the rest of chapter 4 and 5 is more about Tom Cage too."I stoppedcat part 3. I read a book last week where there was racism in a school, and this book is way more raw. I'll pick it up again in the future. I feel that it might get me in an angry mood and a book slump after
I understand, Dom. Back to back stories are hard to take sometimes.I read chapter 6-8 and stopped at chapter 9. These two chapters are mostly about a guy named Henry Sexton, a newspaper reporter. He is reviewing his history after the DA called him on the phone and demanded he drive to Natchez to talk to him. The old Double Eagles have a meeting also, about one of their old members.
I don’t feel that the author is shoving the n word down our throat. Lots of grumbling at how inefficient the FBI is/was.
I checked my bookshelf and I have Mississippi Blood not this one. I’m listening to Alex Cross's Trial and it is a focus on racism. Ironic we pick a book and the theme overlaps with my other one. I’m going to see if the library has it and catch up, Cherie. Unless you want to quit.
Managing that big fat paperback is a pain, Jannene. I am at chapter 17 now. So strange. I feel like I am reading for hours and I look up and only 20 pages have gone by. I am really sunk into the story now. I am not sure what to say without giving anything away, so I won’t.Dom - If you can come back to it soon, I don’t think you will be sorry. It really is not the racial rant that it seemed at the first. It is really settling down to be what happened then and what is going to happen now. The story is going to be revealed little bits at a time, I think.
Oh, I ‘m going to seriously regret it when I have to get up for my 9am meeting, but I couldn’t stop! I am at chapter 21. WOW!
My library had the ebook and audiobook called The Death Factory. It is a 112 page novella #3.5 in Penn Cage. It is what happened immediately at the end of #3 when Penn got the call that Tom had had a heart attack. I just started it.
I finished listening to the audiobook. I didn’t care too much for the narration. Felt like the guy was trying too hard to be dramatic. Really the story of when Penn’s wife was sick and when she died. It also involves a case in Dallas that Penn was drawn into. He is telling the story to his Uncle Jack while they are waiting to find out if his father will be ok or not, after his heart attack and surgery. Sad.I also downloaded the ebook called Blood Memory and started it. Supposed to have Tom Cage in it. Pretty good, so far but it is still early. I am only at 9%. About a woman who grew up in Natchez. “Cat” Ferry.

I have to start A Storm of Swords which has 1177 pages!

Great to hear. I remember there being SO MANY characters. I think I read it twice. I am almost half way through Natchez Burning now. I think we have all of the back stories and the action in the "present" is finally going to start and go forward. I am really worried about Penn's father.
Natchez Burning: I am at chapter 40, 441 pages in of 862, not counting the Afterward.Again, Penn is begrudging his office. “Mayor Penn Cage. What a joke.” Bad news.
I can’t even begin to imagine another whole book’s worth of story left although I am definitely committed to it. I am supposed to lead the group read discussion for one of the group read books this month. I guess I ‘d better start it.
I have been fighting a migraine since last Friday. I’m behind on the book. I’ll be off work tomorrow and Monday.
Jannene wrote: "I have been fighting a migraine since last Friday. I’m behind on the book. I’ll be off work tomorrow and Monday."Nice to get a 4 day weekend. I hope you feel better soon.
Yes, Jannene, I hope you get over the migraine over the long weekend. I took a nap this afternoon to stave off a headache and slept for four and a half hours. I am wide awake now, at 12:15am. I wanted to start the group read book but do you think that I could find it??? I am here to tell you that I have touched EVERY hard copy and paperback on my two book shelves and IF I had a copy, it is nowhere to be found. I looked at all of the ebooks in my Nook tablet library and all of the ebooks on my Kindle app. NOWHERE!
I finally broke down and purchased a copy from Barnes & Noble for my Nook. Grr!
Re Natchez Burning. I actually got to a place where I really did not want to put the book down! I took a break from processing work email and answering questions to read and finally had to stop because my eyes would just not focus. I have a 3.5 hr meeting at 9am in the morning and I will be off of work after that until Tuesday.
Off to finish reading the first chapter in Why Shoot a Butler? Tata!
Jannene wrote: "I have been fighting a migraine since last Friday. I’m behind on the book. I’ll be off work tomorrow and Monday."Lucky you. Only have Monday off but will finish Friday at noon. Need to go to a bookstore and get ideas for someone's birthday that's coming soon!

Don't you hate when that happens? - Both when you have a long nap then wide awake when you should sleep, and not finding a book you know you own?
Janice wrote: "Don't you hate when that happens? - Both when you have a long nap then wide awake when you should sleep, and not finding a book you know you own? ..."LOL! Yes to both.
I did manage to get up for my meeting this morning after staying awake until 3am. I just finished a training session and I am ready for a nap but my granddaughter wants to go out to lunch. If I keep moving I will be fine. The trouble happens if I sit down and try to listen or read - I want to go to sleep.
My nemesis is if I cover myself with a blanket. Even if I'm not tire, I'll be sawing logs in no time.
