She's pretty good. Did the audio with this one and book 2.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I got a message that my laptop refresh was delayed, but no timeline yet. So strange too, because I cannot figure out what happened to the original message. I also have a dentist appointment on the 3rd. What a week. I will let you know how it goes. I got my OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) posted before the deadline today. My manager is such a great guy. He actually did a little of the pre-work on the objectives for me and I just had to wordsmith and add a few key results.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I hate the back and forth action in chapters in stories like this! It gives me heartburn!
It is especially bad now that there are three story lines, instead of just two. I am at chapter 20.

I am going to take a break from Jane and visit the Kane twins to see what is up next in their fight against Apophis.

message 55: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments No, no, no, no! I’m not sure I can read this any more. At 62.6% in chapter 27. Jergen and Dubose just came back into the picture. (view spoiler)

Yeah, Jane is scary but this is almost too much for me. Did you finish?

Jannene | 3124 comments Cherie wrote: "No, no, no, no! I’m not sure I can read this any more."

I did finish and you can do it. It definitely is a darker one in the series.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Gavin and Jessica 1, Bad guys 0!
I love that Jane uses Elizabeth Bennett as an alias.

If the bad guys found out about G and J, why haven’t they found out about Gilberto though?
Just a matter of?)! Is Hendrickson really under control?

I had wondered those same questions and answers will be clearer later.

message 59: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Okay, I got past the bad spot. :o)
I know you cannot answer my questions, but it is nice to be able to write them to someone sometimes. I don't want to spoil anything for Dom - at least I think she is still reading. (view spoiler)

message 60: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments You can read…(view spoiler)

message 61: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It all has me on the edge of my seat. I am taking it in small doses.
I just got to chapter 15. (view spoiler)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Chapter 22. (view spoiler)

LOL!!!

message 65: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments At chapter 33. Just like that!
I have decided that I cannot read this story while I‘m eating. Two chapters and I want to throw up.
Switching to the Kane Chronicles book. (Teen magicians battling Egyptian Gods and trying to prevent the end of the world.)

Jannene | 3124 comments I know that was a twist about the mom.

message 69: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished!

Now, I can get some of my challenge books read. I have three of them on hand that need to be finished.

Next book next month? I will see what the wait time is and get back to you.

message 70: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The Forbidden Door is actually available for me to download now, but I really need some down time.

message 71: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments We can wait until next month. You call it and we are down.

message 72: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I will give you a shout out when I am ready. :o)

I was so shocked when it ended so suddenly. My ebook said I was at 89% when I started reading and all of the sudden it was over at 94%.
The whole last 6% was a preview of the next book. When I sent it back to the library, there was only one hour left before it expired.

message 73: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Dom and I went on a spree (okay maybe two books isn’t quite a spree) reading stand alone books. We read Before She Knew Him and The Kind Worth Killing. I have to say he’s becoming a favorite author and they are stand alone. I really liked both books and had no clue about the ending. Dom was apparently unconvinced unlike my gullible self on the first book who had an idea where the book was heading.

message 74: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Tomorrow she wants to start Kingdom of Ash to finish a series. The audio is over 33 hours which I have but she has the print. This aught to be fun! Then maybe we can convince Cherie that Jane Hawk is feeling neglected and get back to her, now that I can finally turn off the lights again…all joking aside that is a good series too.

message 75: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I will be ready. ;o)

Actually I do have the audio.. Been listening in the morning and reading in the afternoon.
Jane Hawk when we finish this 10 pounds book!

message 77: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments We killed the Throne of Glass series. The last book was so long but very good. We both loved it.

We are reading The Humans for the buddy read then we will be ready for Jane Hawk if Cherie is as well.

message 78: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments The Humans was ok. If it kept the same momentum as part 1 then it would have been a lot more enjoyable. The first part was comical and the rest was plain sad and boring. Dom didn’t start it yet.

Cherie, Dom and I are joining forces to read The Forbidden Door. Jane is close to having her series killed off by us. 😆

message 79: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments This book is sooo good. I’m on part two and can only think (view spoiler)

message 80: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments My review for The Forbidden Door starts with me stating that I thought it was the best in the series to date, so I think you are all in for a treat! :)

message 81: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I can’t seem to put the book down.

message 82: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I finished The Forbidden Door last night. It was extremely good although a bit gruesome in spots.

Dominique | 1126 comments Jannene wrote: "I finished The Forbidden Door last night. It was extremely good although a bit gruesome in spots."

It was. Loved Laurie and Cornell. (view spoiler)

message 84: by Cherie (last edited Apr 20, 2022 04:28PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I started it last night, finally but only got to chapter 6 before my eyes would not stay open. Work is done for the day, so I plan to get more time in.

You both are finished?

message 85: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Um, yes but to be fair I only read 2 books at a time and I couldn’t look away on this one.

message 86: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments This one feels different. Re chapter 12. That was a surprise! Can’t believe the A’s stood down from the Saba’s army standoff!

message 87: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Right? I thought the same thing. It gets better but more gruesome.

message 88: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments The guy that doesn’t believe in anything messes with my head! What he did to the cowboy at the nightclub. Awful! The technology stuff is terrifying too. Google Street View makes me want to crawl under a rock and never come out. The tracker that Ivan put on Jane’s car is BAD!!!

message 89: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments All very bad! The dude that thinks everything is in the script is off his rocker.

message 90: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I agree with you about the guy!

“degrees of evil” - good one.
“darkle deeper” - spell check doesn’t like that one 🤓
“armies of virtue” - hah!
All from chapter 20.

message 91: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments At chapter 36. Goodbye Ivan and goodbye transponder!

Switching over to my yearly challenge read, People of the Book. I can’t go to bed with heartburn tonight. I have a two hour meeting first thing in the morning.

message 92: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments @ chapter 41, the conversation between Egon and Janice (view spoiler). I am not sure if I need to use spoilers or not here.

I like Travis and Cornell together.

message 93: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I told Dom that I love Cornell. Please and thank you. He was my favorite character.

message 94: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments I thought she was doing it to get her way. I wasn’t really sure if she was serious.

message 95: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1126 comments Jannene wrote: "I thought she was doing it to get her way. I wasn’t really sure if she was serious."

I don't think she was serious. She was so out of it.

message 96: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments She? You mean Janice? You don’t think she was serious about what? (view spoiler) I think she was serious!

I currently at chapter 54. Seems slow compared to the previous three books. The Judge giving Egon the news etc., was weird.
The ramp up and activity to Borrego Valley is definitely setting up the next part of the story! THAT is scary!

Re Jane’s list of well-prepared traveler stuff did not include her hammer and screw driver. Scotch tape seemed strange.

message 97: by Jannene (new)

Jannene | 3124 comments Well macgyver could make scotch tape work for everything. ;)

message 98: by Dominique (new)

Dominique | 1126 comments Jannene wrote: "Well macgyver could make scotch tape work for everything. ;)"

message 99: by Cherie (last edited Apr 26, 2022 08:14PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments LOL about MacGyver! Have you ever packed scotch tape in your suitcase or carry-on?

The FORCE gathered in Borrego is impossible to conceive. How is Jane going to have any chance to get in, let alone, get out???

message 100: by Cherie (last edited Apr 26, 2022 08:15PM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Oh, well. I am in chapter 11 of part 3.
I see they have changed the control phrase again.

It is getting stranger and stranger with Egon and company pursuing the Hawks. Can’t wait to see where “the script” takes them tomorrow.
