Hey guys!
Just thought I would check up on you guys to see where we're all at. Please comment below about your progress or anything else you want to ask or discuss about the book.
Also, don't forget to check out the poll on the bottom of the group home page, or head on over to the polls section. Today(15th of February) is the last day to answer the poll which is about whether I should change the group a bit. So far, everyone who has voted has chosen yes so if that still stands when it finishes, I will begin a trial period next month for more of a read-along-with-me kind of thing and then I will put up discussions for it to see what you guys do/don't like about it.

Thanks,
- Caitlin

I'm about 30% through. I love it as much as the first time I read it. I just finished the section told from Zombie's pov.

Oh cool! I decided not to re-read it because I have recently-ish read them. But i'm glad that you're re-reading it and thanks also for commenting. Not many members do but it's good to see some people participating :)

Roxy (roxx727) | 15 comments It was a bit hard for me to get into it at first because, for whatever reason, I thought it was going to be a zombie book. silly, I know. but I think having to alter that initial thought made my start a bit sluggish. this is also only the second alien book I've read. I think I'm just now getting into it.

Oh okay, well this was my first 'alien' book i've ever read so it was a bit different for me. I understand how it may have been a bit sluggish but I personally loved it!

It was the first alien invasion book I've read too. However, I've seen many movies in the genre, and Yancey made several references to different alien movies in the beginning of the book. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed the book so much.

Roxy (roxx727) | 15 comments SHIT. Shit, shit, shit.

Okay, so I tend to judge the books I like by their ability to make me babble like an idiot with feelings, or make me just want to fling it across the room with the same flow of feelings. Page 89 has successfully accomplished that. It's made me overcome whatever made that beginning slow for me, and officially hooked me in.

I just grabbed my copy and flipped back to page 89. That is definitely one the more suspenseful bits in the book.

Roxy (roxx727) | 15 comments So I know what you meant about the romance in the book. It actually made me lose some respect for Cassie. She wasn't acting much like a girl who had been hardened by this change in life style, but more like some fawning pre teen. She couldn't trust the crucifix soldier (I realize that him being a soldier at all plays a role too but still) and yet she easily trusts this guy. idk man. I'm not thrilled about this part of the book. the rest is pretty awesome, it's just the romance that feels a bit... unnecessary.

It seemed almost like an after-thought to me. Like Yancey didn't think that his book would unless there was romance in it. Or that because the main character was a girl there had to be romance in the book. I haven't read his other books yet, but I do know that they all have boys as the main characters. Maybe he's just not use to writing from a female perspective.

I definitely agree. I mean, the only thing that keeps me from absolutely seething is the fact that, despite all that has happened, she is still 16. And I very well remember my own crushes at that age. So I guess I kind of get it. But only kind of. It's still very much annoying to see them speed through feelings in like four very short chapters.

[ spoiler alert ] placing this here just in case my comment gives people ideas.

That said, I like... zombie. I won't go into much detail here for fear of spoiling it for anyone that may be keeping up with our comments. But I find myself enjoying who Zombie is and what he does.

I agree! I like most of the characters but i've always found some characters more likable and others, well, I just have to question their motives.

Zombie is my favorite. Wait until you meet (view spoiler); I liked him too.

Another thing I love about this book is that it is the most quotable piece of work I've ever read. I can't go 5 pages without finding something I want to post on either the quotes section on Goodreads or just in my status updates. It's to the point now that I have to carry a small pack of post-it tabs with me when I leave the house so I can mark the quotes I like most.

Roxy (roxx727) | 15 comments I have to completely agree with that. I love so many lines I read in this book. I had a similar experience reading Incarceron. Although Incarceron wasn't nearly as funny as some of the quotes in here.

Mary Elizabeth (melizabethgoodreader) | 38 comments Mod
I finally finished the book. Admittedly, I'm more annoyed with Cassie than I was when I first read it a couple of years ago. There were many, many times I wanted to grab her by the scruff of her neck and smack her in the face repeatedly with her own book. But, I still forgave her, because Mr. Yancey made-up for Cassie's short comings with the characters Zombie, Ringer, and little Nugget (my favorites). And he had the mercy to allow us frequent breaks from the inside of Cassie's head by switching povs every so often. So, to sum things up: I still love the book and it's still worthy of the 5 star rating I gave it originally.

Caitlin (caitlin_hendrie) | 60 comments Mod
I agree with majority of that. I liked Cassie because Mr Yancy did such a good job at writing her character out and I also love that it changes persepective so that we can see what characters are thinking and so we can see what else is happening. It's also good if characters become boring because then they may get better in their next perspective.
Overall, I gave it a 5 star rating as well and it deserves it.
