Corina | 2768 comments Hi team, I started this new book, but its a chunky one, so not sure I will be able to finish it this month.
However, I am happy to squeeze in another shorter book or 2 this month, but wanted to check what cards should I look for? I saw we have some 2, 3, 4...

I think a 1 will be a good choice, we have three of those left and they are a little harder to find than the other remaining cards. Other option would be a 9.

Verónica | 417 comments March cards are in 📣

I think we got a good set again. Ten colored this time (like all teams) with lots of yellow, but just a couple more Reverse than Feb, same amount of Draw 2 and less 5's, 7's and WD4's. Lots of 1's.

Five more books and Feb will be done!

Mini status:

Veronica
- Girl with a Pearl Earring: A Novel
- The Devil's Highway

Vanessa
- The Escape Room

Corina | 2768 comments Thats great, Verónica! We've got this ;)
I have The Parable of the Sower in progress for February. Will be finishing it in the couple of days. So we can count it for a 1 for February.
If we need it, I can try and squeeze in another short book before Feb 28th.

message 208: by Bella (new)

Bella | 1177 comments thanks Vanessa! I just finished The Kind Worth Killing, and I'm in the middle of The Spanish Love Deception. I'll double check to see if maybe stretching The Spanish Love Deception into March will work out better for us. If not, then I'll finish it by Friday and that might be my last book for February

Well, The Spanish Love Deception could be used for a Reverse in March, so if you want to stretch it go ahead 😉

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments Just want to confirm that if we start a book now, but finish it in March it will count for March? I noticed UNO Pixie posted the countdown for March and I was concerned that meant March books had to be started in March.

Yes Jojo, books started on Feb and finished on March count for March. See the countdown as a remainder on when to finish it for it to count.

Verónica | 417 comments We've finished our hands people! 🎉🎇🎊
Good job everyone!

Just two tasks remain to complete the mini. One is mine (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and one Vanessa's (The Escape Room). With four days left nothing could go wrong, right? RIGHT? hahaha

I guess the rest of the team can chill for a few days, maybe read reeeaaally slow, or big chunky books 😜 .

message 214: by Corina (new)

Corina | 2768 comments Wow...thats great! Well done everyone!
I guess I don't need to finish off Parable of the Sower then?
I can leave it and focus on my chunky book and we can use it for next month.
Also, are we going to list our books in the same sheet? or will have another one for March books?

message 215: by Verónica (new)

Verónica | 417 comments I will add a new tab for March.

message 216: by Corina (new)

Corina | 2768 comments Thank you, Verónica! Will leave the Octavia Butler book for our multiple 1s in March :-)

Corina | 2768 comments Question: if the dust jacket doesn't have the needed 50% of a colour to qualify, but the actual cover is completely in that colour, can we count it for a colour card or not?

I'll finish mine today n then start with March books

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments That's good news! Thank you so much for keeping us updated. I can move the book Flowers for Algernon over to March now. I had surgery on Wednesday and that's slowed down my reading of physical books this week. It's been a little challenging to get my body recovered and slowly get back up on my reading pace between audio and physical books.

Bella | 1177 comments aww, Jojo! I hope your recovery goes smoothly :)

If you can find a picture on the web of the actual cover you have, we can ask a GR librarian to add it to the book as another edition and then we can use it. We have a few GR librarians on the UNO challenge group.

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments Thank you for all your kind wishes of recovery. I have a post op visit on Monday, so I'm hoping after that visit I will start feeling better.

I have a question about short story books that I plan to read for March. Even though several authors have stories included in the books would you only use the first author that is listed on goodreads?

Here are the two books I have that I plan on reading:

More Sweet Tea (Sweet Tea, #2) by Deborah Smith

On Grandma's Porch Stories and True Facts about Growing up Southern in the Good Old Days (Sweet Tea, #3) by Sandra Chastain

Short stories books count as long as the whole thing is read. You can use the author listed on GR as the "editor". If editor is not listed as such, an there are more than two authors, the first author mentioned usually is the editor. But if there are only two authors we can use any of them.

Hi, this is the book I was talking about: A History of Wild Places. The cover with the dust jacket on I thought had enough green but I put it through TinEye and didn't come out as enough. But the naked cover is pretty much full green. Here is a photo of it, found it on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/bookofthemon...

Corina | 2768 comments Hello, I have another question to see if we can fit Jade City into a 9 Green Card. One of the clans in the book is called No Peak, can we consider that as a name? or they constantly refer to No Peak territory as well to name the places that fall into the influence of rhe clan. Could we potentially use it as a place? Just checking :)

How did you like Tin Man? I have her book Still Life on my TBR. I haven't read anything by her yet though..

message 237: by Corina (new)

Corina | 2768 comments I have Still Life on my TBR as well and Tin Man was my first book by her. I think I expected to be blown away and I wasn't but I think it was still a good book. A part of her writing style didn't work for me, specifically the dialogue. Instead of using dialogue markers it was a lot of he/she said which I felt made the story not flow as well. Otherwise the writing was good and I did enjoy the second half of the book more.

Verónica | 417 comments Hello everyone!

How's everybody doing? I've had a busy week and I'm a little behind on my reading but I hope I can catch up this weekend.

+++Update+++

Color cards, three done, seven more to go:
8 Red
1 Blue
2 Blue
4 Blue
5 Yellow
9 Yellow
7 Green

I'm currently reading for 1 & 2 Blue.

We are half way the 5's (4 left), 7's (4 left) and Reverse (3 left). Nice!

message 240: by Corina (new)

Corina | 2768 comments Hello, I was lucky with the extra days in Feb and only left myself a bit to finish to roll over for March. One of the books I'm currently reading will work for either a 2 or a 4 Blue and the other could go for a 5. Also I have a 9 Yellow on the list and I think I found a 7 Green (Secrets of a Charmed Life - character Kendra Van Zant) so I will try and get that from the library. 7 Greens are very hard to find...

Melindam | 4430 comments Hi Amelia,

this is a group reading challenge that started over a month ago.

If you would like to play, you can sign up (please consult the All Ubout UNO thread, where you can find the sign-up form as well) and will be placed on a reserve list. Should any teams need new members, we contact people on the reserve list.

Hopefully Still Life will be better than Tin Man. I like to try to read at least one book by an author I haven't read before, so I guess I'll keep Still Life on my TBR.

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments Vanessa wrote: "Hey Jojo.. how did u like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo?"

I really liked it, I gave it five stars and I ordered a print copy to send to my daughter. It was an intriguing read and I enjoyed most of the characters. I like when there is a sense of redemption for a character in a book, where they grow and before even better for it and it felt like there was that in this story.

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I put a hold on Home Before Dark on audio. It says about 2 wks. Since it takes place in Vermont is can be used as a 7 Green and it could also be used as one that Corina read. So a reverse...

message 246: by Corina (new)

Corina | 2768 comments I will definitely want to read Still Life and will keep it on my TBR as well. For Tin Man I think my expectations were too high, but it wasn't a bad book and a lot of people love it.

Verónica | 417 comments A correction on the color cards. 1 Blue is done, and I will use mine as a WD4.

5 Yellow
9 Yellow
7 Green

I just started an 8 Red.

JoJo_theDodo | 320 comments I think whoever gets to finishing a book first in order to fill the color card works good. I can always cancel my hold if the 7 green is fulfilled before it comes available. I really appreciate the consistent updates.
