Oh wow, 42C, that’s about 20C above my comfort level!! Hope you have a basement or similar to cool down 😆

Managed to finish Murder on a Winter's Night: Ten Classic Crime Stories for Christmas, and I've added it to the sheet. Given it's only got 6 options, I've put it in for "Books-I-Own" at this point.

Miriam | 72 comments Hi everyone,
just a quick note from me. I am not having a good reading day, today. Only 50 pages. Yesterday, too. I hope that my reading will improve as the week progresses.

Ohh, I wish I were in a warm climate right now. 42 degrees is a little warm, but around 30 would be nice. Even though today was a very picturesque day here with a kind of lingering fog the whole day.

JennH | 544 comments Hi everyone! Sorry for the late start. Only just realized that there was a read-a-thon. Hope I can still effectively contribute. I am finishing up Jane Eyre and in the middle of Arsenic and Adobo. Will try to figure out and add info to the spreadsheets.

The movie was amazing!! Definitely one of my favourite MCU movies so far.

I still haven't been able to finish any books but will hopefully finish a couple during the next few days.

message 58: by JennH (new)

JennH | 544 comments I've added books to the spreadsheet. Let me know if I've done it incorrectly.

Welcome Jenn.

Congratulations Sue for filling Antarctica!

Sandra wrote: "The movie was amazing!! Definitely one of my favourite MCU movies so far."

Awesome. We might try to go see it either this evening or tomorrow (while we still can!)

As well as finishing Murder on a Winter's Night yesterday, I also read 118pg of A Mew Beginning, which I should finish this morning, hopefully.

message 60: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments I have just finished a surprisingly quick set of short stories, A Snow Garden and Other Stories, and put it under Cosy, in the Theme section.

message 61: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 180 comments Finished Hopeless and added it to the spreadsheet, to the Book-Club tag!

message 62: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Finished Stay Another Day, was just what I wanted out of a festive read. I've put it down under romance.

message 63: by Ira (new)

Ira | 358 comments I had a busy day yesterday, and did not do much reading but I finished Death on the Nile.

So, I've finished A Mew Beginning for 53pg and filed it as "TBR"

and I've started the last one in that series, CATastrophe in the Making, which I'm getting through pretty quick.

message 65: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Lourenço (ssandraa) | 180 comments Finished Hercule Poirot's Christmas and added it under "currently-reading"

Read and finished CATastrophe in the Making. It only had four options, and the only one left was 2021, so I've put it in for that.

Next I'm going to be working on Our Malady: Lessons in Liberty and Solidarity, which would count on a variety of options, but especially, would count for 4 Stars and Biography.

I'm then going to try Everywhere That Mary Went, as it has Legal-Thriller, but is shorter than most of the John Grishams!

Looking at the sheet, I think we need to see what we can do for the "rating" shelves, as currently they're all blank. One rejig I can see is I could move "A Christmas Carol" from Winter to 5-star. Ellie could then move "Stay Another Day" to Winter and that would open up the Romance shelf, which there are various other options for. What do you all think?

It is getting tricky - I will use Australia, which I could use for all my remaining books but otherwise there aren't many options. I have been doing lots of driving and cooking, so have been listening to more audiobooks than usual but the free ones I can get are all Australian. I will probably finish at least 3 more books before the end of the Readathon - the pages will all count.

message 68: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Good morning :)

I have two books in progress that both fits the 5-stars. I will definitely finish at least one of them before the Rat is over, so no need to re-shuffle for that one.

Perfect. Thanks.

I may be getting too ambitious, but I'm also adding Fugitive Telemetry, as I've been meaning to read it for ages and it ticks 19 boxes, some of which we're still missing.

message 70: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Morning! I didn't read much yesterday, I started Once There Were Wolves but my kindle ran out of juice and I got distracted by other things while it was charging.

My partner is paranoid that the turkey will get attacked by sea gulls if it arrives when we're out, so he's taken the dog out without me and I'm on turkey watch! The big gulls do consistently attack bins with food waste in, so it's not too daft a thought, but it's usually me worrying about such things.

message 71: by JennH (new)

JennH | 544 comments Just a recap - I had finished Jane Eyre and put it under Gothic, and Arsenic and Adobo and put that under Food.

I'm in the middle of A Long Petal of the Sea and will work for Spain, and Six Geese A-Slaying which can fit in a bunch of spots but I was thinking either own, series or borrowed.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 1176 comments Mod
I've managed to finish Our Malady: Lessons in Liberty and Solidarity and entered it for "Biography" as it was the only one in our planning tab for that particular shelf.

And now for something completely different: Fugitive Telemetry!

message 73: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments To those celebrating today, have a lovely day!

I should he able to finish Once There Were Wolves today but haven't really made progress on my audiobook of Where the Deer and the Antelope Play: The Pastoral Observations of One Ignorant American Who Loves to Walk Outside this week.

message 74: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments Thanks Ellie for giving me a laugh imagining you watching out for your turkey...
I managed to finish another audiobook today, Catching Teller Crow while doing all the food prep for my family Christmas dinner tonight. I have coded it under 4-stars. Wishing everyone a lovely day today or tomorrow!

message 75: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Thanks! We’re about to leave the house for Christmas dinner with the rest of the family.

Hope you all have a nice celebration tomorrow morning ✨ Merry Christmas, everyone 🎄

message 76: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 72 comments Hey everyone,

I finally got my reading mojo back yesterday and finished two books, The Vanishing Half and Die Herrenausstatterinwhich I even read in one sitting last night!
I put the former under 'Maybe' in the completion thread and the latter under 'Europe' which of course can be changed.

I am going to finish another book tonight Besser fühlen: Eine Reise zur Gelassenheit which can be used for 2022.

Wishing all of you who celebrate wonderful christmas days.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 1176 comments Mod
Hope everyone celebrating both today and tomorrow has a great day.

I've manged to finish Fugitive Telemetry for 137pg and I've ticked off "Reviewed" with it, as it was the only book which counted for it, while Elli's Parable of the Sower also works for Sci Fi. Obviously, it can be moved if needed.

I'm not sure how much more reading I'm going to get done this RAT, but I'll at least try to get somewhere with Everywhere That Mary Went and/or Finding Christmas

message 78: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Feels weird putting a five star read against the "abandoned" shelf!

I doubt I'll read anything tomorrow, but my partner goes to his dad's for boxing day so I might read some graphic novels before readathon end. I think Emily purposefully gave us more shelves than we could complete so she didn't have to find anyone more to do!

Merry Christmas for tomorrow!

message 79: by JennH (new)

JennH | 544 comments Happy holidays, everyone!

I don't know how much reading I'll get to tomorrow but tonight I plan on finishing In Five Years which will fill the friendship slot, and I hope to finish Six Geese A-Slaying which I can put in series for now.

message 80: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments Hope everyone has/had a good Christmas. It's raining in my part of the UK so not very festive.

I fell asleep last night before I could finish Jane Eyre but hope to fit the last couple of chapters in at some point today. After that I will find something quick to try and get through tomorrow morning before going out again for second Christmas.

message 81: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments Hope you are all enjoying Christmas - after a frantic day yesterday I am having a lovely relaxed day in the air-conditioning as it's 43C outside! I have finished reading Candelo, which I have coded under Australia, and will start my final book tonight. It is also going to be very hot tomorrow (43 again) so might get through quite a few pages!

Merry Christmas all.

I'm well into Finding Christmas, so who knows, I might yet finish another book!

message 83: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Nice, relaxing day today, and I got some reading time in. Finished ‘Svøm med dem som drukner/(The Sixteen Trees of the Somme’) and put it down under 5stars. Quite fitting, as it actually ended up being one of my few 5 star reads this year (I an quite stingy with those 5stars). Great book!

Please go ahead & move it to Sci-Fi if needed. I don't think I will be able to finish Parable of the Sower before the end of the readathon. It is not a book I can speed-read to the end & definitely not a book to read during the festive season.

I'll probably leave it where it was now, as we hadn't got many choices for Reviewed, either. I did manage to finish Finding Christmas, so I've put that in "Have". May or may not manage to read Everywhere That Mary Went today

message 86: by Sue (new)

Sue S | 555 comments Well, it has been an extremely hot day, so I have been reading all day, and even listening to an audiobook while watering the garden or preparing meals, so have completed one more book, The Last Anniversary, which I have put under Contemporary. I haven't finished the audiobook but as it's almost midnight I'm now going to have a bit of a break! My final book was also my last in the AtY challenge, which I have read in order all year, so am feeling quite a sense of achievement. I have also completed the Popsugar Challenge (not in order) except for the longest book on my TBR, which is 1347 pages and there is no way I will get through it in the next few days. Thanks everyone for a great challenge, and happy new year!

message 87: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 72 comments Hello!

I finished Besser fühlen: Eine Reise zur Gelassenheit and put it under 2022 and also finished Allein and put it under Wishlist.
Of course this could be changed.
I am reading Was wäre wenn but I just saw that it hasn't been shelved yet (except for me obviously) so sadly I can't put it anywhere even though I am going to finish it today. Too bad! I don't think I can finish another one today. Oh, well...

message 88: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Congrats on finishing ATY Sue!

message 89: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I finished Lore Olympus: Volume One and put it down against 2021-reading-challenge.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 1176 comments Mod
I didn't manage to finished Everywhere That Mary Went, but I did read 160pg of it which I've put in the spreadsheet.

message 91: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Wow, great work everyone! We finished quite a lot considering in the midst of a Holiday ✨

Miriam, maybe you can use ‘currently reading’ for your book as you at least have it shelved that way. That is assuming the current book we have on that spot can be moved somewhere else 🤞🏻

message 92: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I only have a few pages left of ‘The Missing Sister’, so I will finish that before I go to bed today. I started it before the RaT, but still had 300-400ish pages left before the event :)

message 93: by Hilde (last edited Dec 26, 2021 12:12PM) (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Miriam, I checked now, and the book used for ‘currently reading’ was Hercule Poirot's Christmas which have tons of other tags as well (I didn’t look through all). So I moved that to ‘2019’ freeing up ‘currently reading’ for your book :)

message 94: by Kat (new)

Kat | 565 comments Today didn't really go as planned so I haven't managed to get much reading done. I still managed to read 6 books this week which is pretty good going with everything going on.

It's been a fun week and definitely helped to get me out of my end of year reading funk.

Well done everyone!

message 95: by JennH (new)

JennH | 544 comments I was able to check off the epistolary shelf with Princess in Pink. I'm not going finish The Council of Mirrors, but I hope to be done with Ordeal by Innocence and The Pumpkin Muffin Murder, and check off a couple more shelves.

message 96: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Well done everyone, 50 shelves ticked off!

message 97: by JennH (new)

JennH | 544 comments I did it - I finished Ordeal by Innocence which I put under stand-alone, and The Pumpkin Muffin Murder which I put under kindle but can move elsewhere if any other books finished today need to go into that spot. That should bring us up to 52!

Phew! It's been a fun week reading with you all!

message 98: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 72 comments Good Morning, everyone!

Hilde, thank you for moving around the books.
I did finish the book last night so it counts for the readathon :-). I'll update it in the spreadsheet later, when I can do it on the computer.

For me it really was very helpful to have the readathon, I finished the AtY challenge and my general reading goal of 85 books this week. And it added a sense of purpose to this week.
It was fun!

message 99: by Ira (new)

Ira | 358 comments Hi team. I dissapeared during the last 2 days of the readathon, because my sister came to visit and I had very little time to read. I finished reading Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood which is the last book for this readathon.
