It means to grab 1-2 extra spots in case you run out of room in the first comment. To reserve those spots, you can go ahead and split the challenge up into sections and post each section in a new comment, or you can simply type "reserved" or something else in those extra comments.
The reason I suggest saving a couple of spots for overflow is because Goodreads only allows so many characters per comment, and long challenges like this one usually fill those up pretty fast once all our books are getting logged in. Depending on the challenge and if I have to link the cover and author in addition to the book's regular link, I can usually get 50-75 books into one comment.
I have not yet updated my list of books (they're logged in a notebook but not yet updated online), so you are welcome to look at my template in these consecutive comments...
Andrea Part 1
Andrea Part 2
Andrea Part 3
To see one starting to get filled in, check out Shash's post (scroll down to see her reserved spots).
Sometimes I will post the whole challenge in my first comment and then do "1" and "2" in the next two comments to claim those spots for overflow. Sometimes I type "reserved" or "res" instead of numbers. Just depends on my mood. I've also seen people get creative by doing something like "reserved" "for" "overflow" or "just" "in" "case" in their consecutive saved spots.
If this still doesn't make sense, that's okay. If you run out of room at some point and need to grab another spot then, I can link up your second spot as well in the participants' list for easy access so you won't have to hunt for it when you come back for updates.

You got it, Crystal! Great job! I got your link updated so it should take you to your first comment, and it's easy to scroll down from there to get to the other ones.

thanks so much!
You're welcome! I didn't know what that meant when I first saw it either, in another group I participate in. I'm always happy to explain things if additional questions arise. :)

Lauri, please add the year for each book as well, since this challenge overlaps from 2022. Feel free to backdate to January 2022. Thanks!

I totally missed looking at the dates, thought this was a new one. I will be filling in with backdates, thank you for allowing me to do so.

There is no block date, Lauri. Books may be read in any order for this challenge. You're still good to go! :)
Catching up on posting finished challenges.
