message 1455: by Teri-K (new)

Teri-K | 1251 comments Tuesdays after school are "No Screens" nights with the grandsons, so I did a lot of reading and finished D for Dark Night with Murder Under the Christmas Tree: Ten Classic Crime Stories for the Festive Season by Cecily Gayford.

It had some very good mysteries, including a Cadfael short story that I loved. But the stories weren't that Christmasy.

Teri-K | 1251 comments Jan wrote: "Thanks Teri! What did you think of it??"

Meh. I gave it 2.5 stars. I didn't find it as cute as L&L or very interesting, either. It didn't ever gel for me, I'm afraid. But lots of folks love it, so maybe you will, too.

message 1478: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 20805 comments I did just read your review of both. They look interesting but I probably won't get to them in the coming year.

Teri-K | 1251 comments Jan wrote: "I did just read your review of both. They look interesting but I probably won't get to them in the coming year."

L&L is good if you want a light, feel-good story with no stakes. Otherwise, I wouldn't rush, personally.

message 1480: by Jan, Moderator (new)

Jan | 20805 comments Their cover art is similar to this:
Meadowsweet (Galleries of Stone) by C.J. Milbrandt Meadowsweet by C.J. Milbrandt.

I've heard some really good things about the series and the audio is narrated by Travis Baldree. I'm kind of wondering if C.J. Milbrandt is a pen name of Baldree's.

Jennifer | 303 comments Jan - I need to change my "N". I had to DNF The Carols of Christmas: A Celebration of the Surprising Stories Behind Your Favorite Holiday Songs - you needed a master's degree in musical theory to understand it...
